Jets “Undecided” On Breece Hall Ahead of Free Agency

February 22, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

New York Jets running back Breece Hall is one of the biggest names set to hit free agency, but a recent report suggests he might not reach the open market. Selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Iowa State product immediately became one of the league’s better dual-threat running backs and one of the only consistent offensive weapons on the Jets. Now set to hit the open market, the Jets are reportedly unsure of what to do with their star weapon.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, New York is “weighing all options” with Hall, including potentially using the franchise or transition tag to secure his services for one additional year. While the NFL insider reports tagging Hall is “yet to be determined,” it’s surprising the Jets haven’t made a decision yet.

Jets Undecided on Breece Hall Ahead of Free Agency

If Breece Hall reaches free agency, he will be arguably the most coveted running back on the market. While Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker will also receive a sizable amount of interest, Hall is just as talented and could thrive in a better environment. After all, the Iowa State product made a name for himself despite playing with different quarterbacks varying from average to atrocious, multiple head coaches, and a poor offensive line.

Hall is in an interesting position, as he’s a premium player at one of the game’s least important positions. On the one hand, the Jets are not a running back away from turning this thing around, and they could use the money he would receive on more important positions. On the other hand, New York has $79.3 million in cap space. Anything Hall earns won’t prevent the Jets from pursuing top talent, and it’s usually not a good idea to let young talent walk out the door. Only time will tell what the Jets do, but using the franchise or transition tag would make plenty of sense.
