“It’s Kind Of Hard To See How I Step On The Field” – Top NFL Superstar Likely to Holdout; 4 Suitors Emerge?

July 17, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The offseason drama continues for the Washington Commanders as top wide receiver Terry McLaurin suggests he could holdout of training camp. According to ESPN, McLaurin is unhappy and is disappointed by the ongoing progress with his new contract. The two parties are now entering a crucial time to get a deal through, and it will be up to the Commanders if they’re willing to meet his demands. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Ohio State product became the main contributor for Jayden Daniels‘ pass offense, and the Commanders can’t afford to lose him, as they haven’t been making any effort to want him in Washington, even though McLaurin wants to stay.

“I don’t want to feel like you have to beg for someone to see your worth and value. Everything in previous regimes and now I’ve done everything asked of me,” he said.

Indeed, no matter the circumstances in Washington, the wide receiver has been a valuable weapon for this offense, so it’s hard to imagine the Commanders haven’t been in contact with McLaurin, and that looks to be the case for him. It wasn’t too long before the wide receiver skipped voluntary workouts as well as some were mandatory. Many should expect him to sit out even into the 2025 regular season if the Commanders don’t get in communication with him sooner rather than later.

Top NFL Superstar Terry McLaurin Likely to Holdout; 4 Suitors Emerge?

Best Possible Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

While veteran Mike Williams is nursing an injury, the Los Angeles Chargers could find themselves in the market for another wide receiver. It doesn’t help that 2025 draft pick Tre Harris is holding out, which leaves Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and KeAndre Lambert-Smith to brace for what’s to come. Perhaps, they could solidify the receiver problem they’ve been having since last season with the addition of McLaurin in a trade.

New England Patriots

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots are entering a new era of rebuilding. After signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins this offseason, head coach Mike Vrabel is trying to get the overload of receivers under control since they have a ton like Kayshon Boutte, Kendrick Bourne, Javon Baker and more. Most of them will likely be on the practice squad, but they need a solid playmaker to help Drake Maye be successful after a promising rookie campaign, and McLaurin could be the answer to the consistent receiver woes.

Baltimore Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens don’t need another wide receiver, but after getting through Odell Beckham Jr., Nelson Agholor, Diontae Johnson and now DeAndre Hopkins, the team will need to figure it out sooner or later. No one is taking snaps away from Zay Flowers or Rashod Bateman, but they need some longevity for this Ravens offense if they want Lamar Jackson to continue to thrive. McLaurin could pair with Flowers in the deep threat, while Bateman could be their new slot option, which might pay dividends as far as chemistry for this offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to add another high-caliber offensive weapon after trading away George Pickens. While they got DK Metcalf this offseason, the names behind him, like Scotty Miller or Robert Woods, don’t seem promising when you have a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers. McLaurin could make this offense better all-around as another hungry go-getter.
