Giants, Patriots Could Connect On Massive Trade

October 24, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The New England Patriots could be buyers before the trade deadline next month, and since the New York Giants are likely missing the playoffs, they could move on from Devin Singletary. According to a source, Singletary remains the “odd man out” in New York due to the emergence of rookie Cam Skattebo and the Giants having a viable backup in Tyron Tracy Jr. to supplement him on the ground game. While the NFC East is still wide open, it doesn’t make sense for the team to keep him on the roster if he doesn’t have a clear future, and the Giants could easily get some solid draft capital to build around rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Florida Atlantic could be a fit for the New England Patriots.

They’re in dire need of a backup running back after losing Antonio Gibson. Even though they have Rhamondre Stevenson and rookie Treveyon Henderson, Stevenson has fumbling issues, and they can’t lean too much on the rookie. Singletary is a low-stakes trade acquisition if the Patriots want to find another option, especially when you have a capable offensive roster led by Drake Maye that is likely a postseason contender. The running back won’t get the majority of the snaps in New England, but he’d be a reliable final piece of the puzzle, possibly to help Maye in situational moments.

Giants, Patriots Could Connect On Massive Devin Singletary Trade

Other Possible Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

After losing rookie Omarion Hampton and veteran Najee Harris, they must find at least a capable backup since Hampton will return. They can’t afford to rely on Hampton during the playoffs (if they get there) since he’s still going through growing pains, and now he’s coming back from his first NFL injury. It’s hard to imagine Jim Harbaugh will settle for less on this ground game, and he should be looking in the trade market. Singletary isn’t the most explosive addition, but he has the strength and athleticism to turn into the old-school back that Harbaugh is looking for.

Justin Herbert is a top 5 quarterback in the league and needs a strong running game to be successful. Singletary coming in to be a mentor for Hampton could be something long-term for the team.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are 1-5 and aren’t mathematically out of the postseason. However, if they lose these next two games, they should probably tank. This trade would make sense this year if they find a way to get Lamar Jackson back, but he will probably be throwing the football less in his situation. While Derrick Henry is still a viable back, he’s slowing down, and Justice Hill could use some help to breeze through defenders in the red zone.

Keaton Mitchell hasn’t done much since the preseason, and since Henry is likely on the brink of retirement, Singletary could turn into the next permanent starter for the Ravens if it turns out right. He isn’t going to be Ray Rice 2.0, but at least it gives the Ravens some type of life.

Kansas City Chiefs

However, the Kansas City Chiefs are slowing down on the run game as well. Despite getting Isiah Pacheco back in full health this season, he hasn’t been the same downhill runner this 2025 campaign. With Kareem Hunt likely headed to free agency after this year, they could trade for Singletary as a replacement.
