A Geneva couple in their 80s died in a two-vehicle crash on Friday at Bricher Road and Fisher Drive in Geneva, officials said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at 1:40 p.m. Sept. 5, a dark blue, 2020 BMW X3 was traveling eastbound on Bricher Road approaching Fisher Drive, according to a press release from the Geneva Police Department. A blue, 2005 Toyota Corolla was attempting to turn westbound onto Bricher Road from Fisher Drive, police said, and the BMW struck the Toyota, pushing the Toyota east of the intersection, according to the release.
The collision sent the BMW off the roadway into a wooded brush area north of the intersection, police said. The BMW sparked with fire, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters, according to the release. The Geneva police and fire departments, along with the Batavia Fire Department and Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District, responded to the scene.
An 85-year-old Geneva man, who was driving the Toyota, and his wife, 88, were killed in the crash, police said. Their names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
The BMW was driven by an 18-year-old man, who had three passengers, ages 18 to 19, in the vehicle, according to the release. The driver and two passengers were medically released at the scene. One passenger was transported by paramedics to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, police said.
No charges have been filed, but the crash remains under investigation, police said in the release Friday evening. Geneva police, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Coroner’s Office are working collaboratively to investigate the crash, according to the release.
