WCG’s lead draft analyst shares his thoughts on the Bears’ first-round pick.
With the No. 10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Bears selected Michigan tight end Colston Loveland.
A second-team All-American in 2024, Loveland was a national champion with Michigan in 2023 and a two-time All-Big Ten player. He finished his two seasons as a starter with a combined 101 receptions for 1,231 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Many had Penn State tight end Tyler Warren rated higher than Loveland, but I’d argue the latter has the higher athletic ceiling. It’s worth noting that Loveland is nearly two years younger than Warren, as well.
Loveland finished the pre-draft cycle as my No. 12 overall prospect, so he’s pretty solid value with the No. 10 selection, all told.
I took to Twitter/X to share my thoughts on the Bears adding Loveland to their tight end room, currently headlined by Cole Kmet.
THREAD: The #Bears just added an explosive tight end for Ben Johnson’s offense with elite potential in Colston Loveland.

For my money, Loveland is the best route runner at tight end in this class.
He’s an explosive player for his size, with the burst and agility needed to get open against man coverage. #Bears pic.twitter.com/SHIdm45ii3

For a guy who’s 6’6” and 248 pounds, he’s a serious weapon out of the slot.
Sure-handed tight end who’s an elite athlete with a drop rate of just 3.4% in 2024. Took 43.1% of his career reps in the slot. #Bears pic.twitter.com/4j5Hltc28C

Loveland isn’t the biggest tight end out there, but he brings the effort as a run blocker.
Good grip strength and ideal churning in his lower body at the point of attack. #Bears pic.twitter.com/HV3s6k2TLT

In addition to Colston Loveland’s raw athleticism, he has a good understanding of how to exploit soft spots against zone coverage.
Attacks leverage points well through his stems against man coverage, too. #Bears

I had Tyler Warren higher on my board as the safer pick, but Colston Loveland has a higher ceiling in my eyes.
He’s an elite athlete with tremendous ball skills and upside as a blocker. This is your Sam LaPorta pick. #Bears
