WCG’s lead draft analyst shares his thoughts on the Bears’ newest defender.
With the No. 62 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears selected Texas A&M defensive tackle Shemar Turner.
A second-team All-SEC defender in 2023, Turner was a three-year starter at defensive tackle for the Aggies. He finished his four total years in college with 115 total tackles, 10 sacks and 24 tackles for a loss.
Turner most notably had six sacks in 2023. He served as a reliable fixture in Texas A&M’s defensive line rotation over his tenure in college, projecting him as one of the top defensive tackles in the 2025 draft.
The No. 61 overall player on my big board this year, he stands out as good value for the Bears. He projects to factor into an interior defensive line rotation that features the likes of Gervon Dexter, Grady Jarrett and Andrew Billings.
I headed to Twitter/X quickly to break down the newest member of Chicago’s defensive line.

I love the power and spatial awareness Turner plays with in run support.
Low center of gravity, strong anchor, knows when and how to free his hands up to make the stop. #Bears pic.twitter.com/U7g6EMfw2y

Turner has a relentless motor and quick hands with a good understanding of which moves to use to win at the line of scrimmage.
Lined up all over the defensive line for A&M. I like him best as a 1-technique. #Bears pic.twitter.com/jURpygfXyi

Turner isn’t just a generic run-stuffer, though.
He has impressive finesse as a pass-rusher and the closing speed to generate pressures on a consistent basis. #Bears pic.twitter.com/IO15Rxe9fq

No RAS for Shemar Turner, but he has good length and massive hands that help him out at the point of attack. #Bears pic.twitter.com/d5BlVj005J

Shemar Turner will factor into the #Bears’ defensive line rotation from Year 1.
He defends the run well with athletic upside as a pass-rusher. Think he’s your long-term starter at DT opposite Gervon Dexter. Nice pick.
