Former U-46 board member Cody Holt running for senate
Cody Holt, an Elgin resident and former District U-46 School Board member, has announced he will be running as a Republican in the spring primary for the 33rd District state senate seat.
Don DeWitte, R-St. Charles, has held the office since 2018 but is not seeking reelection.
According to a news release, Holt is a lifelong conservative and Republican activist who has worked for Wirepoints and the Kane County Circuit Court system and as a political consultant.
“Illinois is home — and home is worth fighting for,” Holt said in the release. “We all know someone who has left for lower-taxed, better-managed states. That’s why I’m running — to take on the Springfield insiders and fight for the people who still believe Illinois can be saved.”
He said he is also running to appeal to millennials such as himself and to reverse the trend of Illinois losing residents to other states.
