Detroit Lions’ Game Is A Dream Come True For Amon-Ra St. Brown

February 26, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Detroit Lions will be playing one of nine NFL 2026 International games. For Amon-Ra St. Brown, the news is especially meaningful. Upon learning the team would be playing in Munich, Germany, he described it as, “Ein Traum Der Wehr Ward.” (“a dream come true.”)

Detroit Lions Game Is A Dream Come True For Amon-Ra St. Brown

St. Brown’s mother, Miriam, was born in Germany. He’s looking forward to suiting up for a game in the country that is his second home. Growing up with dual citizenship, he and his two brothers, Osiris and Equanimeous St. Brown, made yearly visits to Germany. Spending time with relatives in Cologne and Leverkusen, his mother oversaw the boy’s education and ensured they got top grades. Consequently, St. Brown became fluent in both German and French. To this day, his mother speaks to him only in German.

St. Brown Learns His Dream Is Coming True

It was Miriam who had the pleasure of announcing to St. Brown on camera on Tuesday that the Lions would be playing in Munich. Speaking to her son in German, she began by telling him how proud she and the family were of his success. Mentioning his fans in America, Miriam reminded him, “But you also have quite a few (fans) in Germany. They’re going to be very happy this year,” she said, before revealing the news.

Clapping his hands, St. Brown responded gleefully, “Lions in Deutschland, baby!”

Appearing on X, shortly afterward, he spoke to his fans, announcing in German, “Finally, the time has come. We have a game at home in Munich—a dream come true. Lions fans, we are here, let’s go,” he said.

St. Brown’s Strong German Connection

In addition to co-hosting the St. Brown Brothers podcast, he and Equanimeous share another venture: sponsoring youth football camps in Germany. In collaboration with the Gridiron Imports Foundation, the St. Brown brothers hold annual football camps for young boys and teens ages 6-18. Designed to promote football abroad and develop the athletic skills of campers, St. Brown takes a personal approach in working with the campers. With his own legendary work ethic, serious young football enthusiasts couldn’t be in better hands. Campers also get to meet other Detroit players.  St. Brown often takes his teammates to Germany with him. Last July, Kaliff Raymond and Craig Reynolds joined him abroad.

As one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL, St. Brown is a well-known sports figure in Germany. Over the years, thanks to his frequent visits, Germany has a well-established, devoted Lions’ fan base.

”I cannot wait to play in front of the incredible fans that I’ve gotten to know through my visits and football camps in the country. Their support for me and the country’s instant connection to the Lions brand is inspiring, and I’m looking forward to our team getting to showcase Detroit football on an international scale.”

The Lions German Connection

It’s great news for the Lions organization as well.  In recent years, the Lions have become one of the biggest TV ratings draws under Dan Campbell’s leadership. The international game will only enhance the team’s profile outside the US.  Outgoing Detroit Lions president & CEO Ron Woods announced on Tuesday, “We are thrilled to be playing internationally and specifically in Munich for the 2026 season. As an organization, we have invested greatly in the German market and are excited to play in front of our passionate German fans.”

The Lions game will be the third time Munich has hosted an International NFL game. After first premiering as an NFL site in 2022, they hosted a second game in 2024.

Detroit’s opponent for the game and the exact date won’t be announced until May, when the NFL schedules are released.
