The Kansas City Chiefs are 3-3 and in third place in the AFC West, and even after their big win over the Detroit Lions in Week 6, could use a boost. Perhaps the Chiefs can find that boost via a trade for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
Chiefs Trade Pitch Lands Saints RB Alvin Kamara Before Deadline
Trade Deadline Could Present Opportunity for Alvin Kamara, Chiefs
A five-time Pro Bowler and the 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year, Kamara is a veteran on a rebuilding Saints team. They could be on the verge of a hard reset. If so, the Chiefs could, and perhaps should, get involved in pursuing a trade for Kamara.
The Saints are 1-5 entering Week 7, and they have been a target of contending teams.
This Last Word on Sports trade pitch would bring Kamara to KC amid outside lobbying. The trade deadline is on November 4 at 4 p.m. ET.
Chiefs get:
- Alvin Kamara
Saints get:
- 2026 fourth-round pick
Kamara, 30, has 314 yards and 1 touchdown on 83 carries this season. He has another 122 yards on 22 receptions as a threat out of the backfield. He is signed through 2026 on a two-year, $24.5 million contract.
Chiefs Urged to Trade for Saints RB Alvin Kamara
Kamara is tracking for a career-worst season from scrimmage in the Saints’ 24th-ranked offense, but a move to the Chiefs could jumpstart his season and help ease the burden on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin noted Mahomes has been left to “do a little too much.” He added that the Chiefs are not “ready to trust” their “bruising backs,” Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt.
The Chiefs also have Brashard Smith, but he is a rookie and a converted receiver.

“Kamara may want to retire with the New Orleans Saints, but what if the reigning AFC champions call with an offer to join a potential Super Bowl bid?” Benjamin wrote on October 14.
“Kamara, meanwhile, has precisely the kind of pass-catching tools that could make him a dream Swiss Army knife for Andy Reid, right alongside Xavier Worthy, Marquise Brown and Co. Would he really turn that down to stay in a rebuild?”
Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has also served his six-game suspension.
A trade for Kamara could put the Chiefs over the top in their quest to reach and, more importantly, win another Super Bowl.
Chiefs Face Major Hurdle in Potential Alvin Kamara Trade Pursuit
Benjamin’s note about Kamara’s plans is noteworthy. It serves as one significant hurdle the Chiefs would face in any trade scenario.
“While New Orleans will continue to get calls — and time will tell how receptive they are to trading starters — Kamara isn’t expected to go anywhere,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on October 11.
“Sources say Kamara told Saints general manager Mickey Loomis that he’d like to remain with the franchise through the rest of his career, which was the goal when he signed a two-year, $24.5 million extension last October. Kamara is signed through 2026 and will have a decision to make prior to next season about if he wants to continue playing.”

Moreover, the Chiefs have $2.9 million in cap space, per Over The Cap.
They could always create spaces, as teams are often wont to do. However, the Chiefs would still need the Saints and Kamara to agree to a deal. The veteran notably has a no-trade clause.
