After acquiring him from the Kansas City Chiefs earlier in the offseason, the Chicago Bears have agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $35 million with superstar guard Joe Thuney. Thuney, a former third-round pick, spent the 2024 season with the Kansas City Chiefs but has also played for the New England Patriots.

Joe Thuney, Chicago Bears, Agree to Contract Extension
The Joe Thuney contract extension further demonstrates head coach Ben Johnson’s desire to build around an elite offensive line. After dominating with the Detroit Lions and their strong unit, Johnson has effectively built a blocking group that can protect former first-overall pick Caleb Williams and what should be a high-octane passing attack. Despite being 32 years old, Thuney remained as reliable as ever last year, finishing the season with an 80.0 PFF grade despite spending part of the season out of position at left tackle.
Joe Thuney originally entered the league as a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Selected by the New England Patriots, the North Carolina product immediately earned a starting spot on Bill Belichick’s offensive line. Starting and appearing in every game, the rookie finished his inaugural season with a respectable 65.6 PFF grade while helping New England pull off the now-famous 28-3 Super Bowl comeback against the Atlanta Falcons.
Thuney maintained his starting job for the next four years, helping New England make it back to the big game in 2017 before winning another title in 2019. However, Joe Thuney departed in free agency following the expiration of his rookie contract and landed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Maintaining an elite level of play, the guard helped the Chiefs win two more titles while forming the league’s top interior offensive line with center Creed Humphrey and right guard Trey Smith.
