Caleb Williams opened up about a lot of topics during his recent appearance on “The Pivot” with Ryan Clark and the crew — including his immediate feelings in the aftermath of the Justin Fields trade.
Sitting down with the ex-Pro Bowler, Williams talked about where he was when he heard the news and admitted he was a bit surprised that the team made the move.
I’m in West Hollywood area driving to a business meeting and I mean my phone explodes. … I end up calling a couple people and was just like, ‘Welp, we know where their mind and heart is at at this instance.’ Let’s prepare and get ready and handle things accordingly and still do our due diligence on the situation and things like that. In that moment, it was kind of like, ‘Wow.’ Because I didn’t do my top-30 visit yet. They didn’t have my medicals and things like that. They have it all now and I had a good time on my top-30. But it was interesting right then in that moment because it was just so unexpected in that instance.
The Bears traded Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month in exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick that could become a fourth depending on playing time.
Chicago had gone back and forth about whether or not it was going to keep the former 11th overall pick. But ultimately felt the chance to draft a talent like Williams at No. 1 was too good to pass up.
The NFL Draft gets underway in just over 48 hours where the Bears will hope to land their first Hall of Fame quarterback since Sid Luckman.
