Caleb Williams is still early in his Chicago Bears tenure, but it’s already clear he understands one of the most important truths about playing quarterback in the NFL: having a good offensive line can make a huge difference. During recent remarks, the second-year quarterback didn’t just offer praise for the group protecting him; he went a step further, highlighting center Drew Dalman as a foundational piece of both his present and future in Chicago.
Caleb Williams on Drew Dalman: “The Right Guy for the Job”

When Caleb Williams spoke about Drew Dalman, his words carried weight. Calling his offensive linemen The Avengers, Williams singled out Dalman as the Hulk, a nickname that speaks volumes about how he views the center position.
“All of them [the offensive line] collectively form a very formidable team to go out there and go to war with, but Drew Dalman is, I call Drew Dalman the Hulk,” Williams said. “He’s the brains and all of it, but when he gets out there and, you know, on the field, he’s strong as he can be, fast, and the right guy for the job, for us and my future and our future here. So I’m excited for that and I’m happy that he is here with us and with me. We’re going to keep growing together and we’re going to continue to find ways to help each other out in this tenure that we have together.”
For a franchise quarterback, having confidence in the center calling protections and anchoring the interior can be the difference between chaos and consistency, as Bears fans have seen over the past few years at center. However, Williams believes Dalman provides the foundation, and the statistics back it up.
Dalman is currently the fourth-highest-rated center according to Pro Football Focus, with an 82.3 overall grade, 76.4 pass block grade (4th/39 qualified centers), and an 82.6 run block grade (7th/39). He’s also allowed just one sack on 902 offensive snaps and two penalties.
It’s been a massive upgrade to say the least at center, and signing Dalman this past offseason on a three-year, $42 million contract could end up as one of the best free agent signings in Bears’ history.
The Avengers in the Trenches
Williams’ praise didn’t stop with Dalman. In a moment that quickly resonated with fans, the Bears quarterback revealed the names for his “Avengers” offensive line.
At left tackle, Ozzy Trapilo earned the nickname Wolverine, which is fitting for a player with relentless pass protection and toughness on the edge. Left guard Joe Thuney as Dr. Strange highlights his intelligence and experience as one of the most elite offensive linemen the NFL has to offer.
Jonah Jackson as the Red Hulk is fitting after his impressive trap block in the game against the Cleveland Browns, even having head coach Ben Johnson saying, “I went to sleep last night just thinking about that trap block that Jonah Jackson had with about two minutes left in the half. He absolutely annihilates the three technique. Things like that just put a little smile on my face.”

Finally, a funny explanation for Darnell Wright as Bucky because he’s always wearing that massive arm brace on his right arm, but still showing how tough and dominant he is as a player.
Altogether, the Avengers theme reflects a quarterback who sees his offensive line as his heroes. And with Dalman at the center of it all, the future is bright for the Bears.
