More 2024 NFL Draft Profiles

The Washington State Cougars are the founding fathers of the PAC-12. Over the past decades, the Pac-12 has given the college football community many moments to cherish forever. As it disbands, Washington St is still in the dark about its potential move but is still sending prospects to the NFL. Over the recent years, players such as Jalen Thompson, Jaylen Watson, Gardner Minshew, etc., have come from Washington St. Next up is a potential gem, Brennan Jackson.

Jackson was a three-star recruit out of Temecula, California, committed to Washington St. Jackson’s first two years as a cougar, he red-shirted. Freshman year was the usual redshirt Jackson’s next year. He broke his leg and missed the final 11 games. However, Jackson regained form in the next two years, earning All PAC-12 honorable mention. In 2022, Jackson was awarded second team all Pac 12. In 2023, Jackson had eight sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 58 total tackles. They also recorded four fumble recoveries and two touchdowns. Jackson was a pleasant surprise, and I won’t be shocked if his name is called earlier than expected on draft day.  However, would he have a high round grade? Let’s dig into the film.

2024 NFL Draft: Brennan Jackson Scouting Report

Jackson’s Strengths

  • He is one of the highest motors and non-stop aggression. He plays every play like it’s his last. Coaches dream with his work ethic on and off the field.  He does not stop playin’ until the whistle blows.
  • Day one impact run defender with the ability to disrupt plays and set a hard edge.
  • He has a good scheme of versatility and can play in various alignments. He is a three-down player at both edge and interior positions.
  • Bring your lunchpail-type football and be physical at every snap. Be a physical presence at the point of attack, often overpowering blockers.
  • Smart football player and plays Decisive in backfield reads, quickly disrupting the mesh point to make plays.
  • He is an improved technician with his hands. Has good speed to power as a pass rusher. Very disciplined rusher.

Jackson’s Weakness

  • He lacks a pass-rush plan, with poor hands and timing and against tackles.
  • He is very stiff in his lower body, affecting his mobility and ability to execute elite bends.
  • He can get caught peeping inside, trying to make the big play, and get blocked by the offensive linemen
  • To fulfill his full potential, he must improve his hand positioning on run-defensive plays and reduce his body usage. The same is valid for rushing the passer.
  • Older prospect with an injury history. He could leave NFL teams Concerned about his age, potential, and injury history.

Projection: Fourth Round

NFL Comparison: Sam Hubbard

Best Fits: Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, and the New York Jets.

Bottom Line

Brennan Jackson is a hidden gem in this class and has starting Edge Rusher potential. Jackson has good length, play strength, and, most importantly, the best motor in the class. His technique and hand usage need work, and he’s an average athlete. However, he is the being your lunch player who always turns into a fan-favorite.
