Breaking: Patriots Could Trade Former 2024 Draft Pick – 5 Possible Fits

May 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

patriots trade jalynn polk

To no surprise, the New England Patriots may trade wide receiver Jalynn Polk before the 2025 regular season begins. According to a report, one source believes the Patriots may move on from the disappointing wideout as the team has a new coaching regime. Typically, when a new head coach arrives in an organization, several starting players are in danger of losing their jobs. This means Polk could be on the chopping block after having one disastrous season with the team, so the roster could be moving him out of an overcrowded receiver room.

Originally selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the former Texas Tech and Washington product couldn’t get anything going in this offense under rookie quarterback Drake Maye. The offense was heavily reliant on Kendrick Bourne and Demario Douglas, while Polk was on the bench waiting for an opportunity. After signing Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency, many should expect the Patriots quarterback to throw the football to Diggs, Hollins or Bourne in the aerial attack, so it shouldn’t be surprising to see Polk on the trade block. It’s too early for the Patriots to release Polk after just one campaign, so the best solution is to make him available for a trade.

Polk won’t fetch the best draft capital, but these five teams may pursue him to salvage their wide receiving department.

Potential Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys should be desperately hunting for a new wide receiver. CeeDee Lamb can’t do all the plays for quarterback Dak Prescott in the aerial attack, so something needs to happen in this offense. While they have an interest in reuniting with Amari Cooper, it might not fit the billing for Dallas on their terms. Polk seems a more realistic trade option since he’s still on a rookie contract.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the Saints could use another wide receiver since the quarterback room is a depleted place. They need all the help they can get, despite signing Brandin Cooks. Chris Olave could request a trade before the season starts, and Rashid Shaheed only thrives when he has a capable wideout room. Polk might not do much, but they need every weapon to help whoever becomes the starter succeed in the new regime being built by head coach Kellen Moore.

Carolina Panthers

The same can be said about the Carolina Panthers. Even though they drafted Tetairoa McMillan, he won’t be ready for starting duties, so Polk could share the snaps behind Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker. He doesn’t have to be perfect to make an impact, especially for Bryce Young.

Baltimore Ravens

Despite signing DeAndre Hopkins, he will likely retire after the 2025 campaign if the Ravens win a Super Bowl. Either way, the team needs a long-term WR3 to help behind Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. The Ravens should continue to experiment and take a chance on Polk to see what he could do for Lamar Jackson’s offense.

Washington Commanders

Quarterback Jayden Daniels could use another wide receiver, even though they signed Michael Gallup and traded for Deebo Samuel. Polk provides a higher upside than Gallup since he’s still entering year two and could become their long-term weapon alongside Luke McCaffrey. Daniels will only get better once there are established weapons, and Polk could fit the bill.
