Robert Woods, Pittsburgh Steelers, Agree to Contract
The 2024 campaign was a rocky one for the veteran after being more of a depth fill for the Houston Texans. Woods recorded just 20 receptions for 203 yards despite appearing for the majority of the campaign. The veteran didn’t make much of an impact in their divisional-round loss against the Kansas City Chiefs even though he was available to be a dependable target for C.J. Stroud‘s offense.
Robert Woods originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Selected by Doug Marrone and the Buffalo Bills, Woods started in just 14 games and missed a few matchups due to injuries, recording 40 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie year. The Bills didn’t see the playoffs that year but the veteran built a phenomenal sophomore season competing to retain his starting role against Mike Williams and Chris Hogan.
Even though it was a slow rookie year, Woods got better in each category where he finished his second stint in the league with a career-high 65 receptions for 699 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games but 15 starts. Marrone Opted out as the head coach and Rex Ryan took over full-time duties where Woods was named the third receiver on the depth chart. However, the following season in 2017, his production was slowly depleting so the team let him test free agency and signed with the Rams.
Woods was named a starter a year later with Cooper Kupp behind him in Los Angeles and helped them appear in the Super Bowl. The USC product was quiet in his one-year stint in Tennessee but began to show signs of life with the Texans.
Since signing his rookie contract, Woods overall recorded 688 receptions, 8,076 receiving yards and 38 touchdowns.
