Breaking: Could Saints Trade Former First-Round Pick?

It shouldn’t be a shocking thing if, right before the 2025 regular season, the New Orleans Saints could trade wide receiver Brandin Cooks. While there has been a lot of hype about the Saints that they got their old friend back as part of their offense, it might not last long like everyone is expecting. Bleacher Report proposed the Saints would send Cooks in a possible trade package that would give them next year’s fifth-round pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers. It makes sense for the Saints to move on early, especially after they traded for DeVaughn Vele and claimed a promising offensive weapon threat in Trey Palmer.

New Orleans already has two high-profile wide receivers in Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, so all four frontrunners, including Vele and Palmer could make Cooks expendable. It’s unusual for a team to trade away one of its free agent signings of this year, but it’s not impossible. The Steelers aren’t the only team that is in the market for a wideout, but it makes sense why they would try to trade for Cooks. After releasing Robert Woods, the team lacks a veteran presence.

New Orleans is no longer a postseason contender, so it makes sense why a trade to the Steelers makes sense since they’re trying to win sooner rather than later. Here are three other possible Super Bowl-winning teams that might snag Cooks.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs will lose their top receiver, Rashee Rice, for six games, so that leaves a huge hole in Patrick Mahomes’ offense. Even though Jalen Royals and Nikki Remigio are one of the more uprising playmakers, it’s better to give this offensive scheme some comfort level moving forward. The road doesn’t get easier as they face a tough defense next Friday night, going toe-to-toe with the Los Angeles Chargers. While Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy haven’t failed to impress in training camp, they can’t take the risk of their depth.

They should trade for Cooks on a low-stakes deal for a year, and this puts him in a solid position to win his first Super Bowl.

Baltimore Ravens

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the most impressive receiver groups in the AFC after signing DeAndre Hopkins on a one-year deal this offseason. Between Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman, back-to-back MVP Lamar Jackson has enough weapons to distribute the ball to. It wouldn’t hurt to add another wide receiver, especially since the Ravens are prone to always coming short in playoff moments, play-by-play.

This doesn’t mean Cooks will drastically improve this group, but the older the receiver unit is, the better chances you have, since you have a lot of experience on offense.

Washington Commanders

However, the Washington Commanders released Michael Gallup, but the good news is that they brought back Terry McLaurin on an agreed extension. While it looks promising for Jayden Daniels’ offense, they could benefit from adding an extra veteran presence behind Luke McCaffrey and Noah Brown. Cooks played in Dallas when Dan Quinn was there, so the two could reunite.
