The NFL Free Agency is already shaping up to be a good one, as the Buffalo Bills are acquiring wide receiver DJ Moore in a trade to strengthen the offense for Josh Allen, which may mean the departure of Keon Coleman. The Bills reportedly found their new target for Allen, while this could very well signal the departure of Coleman in the next few days. Buffalo already has a ton of offensive weapons in the background, such as Khalil Shakir and Joshua Palmer. With Coleman being the “odd man out,” there might not be a decent role for him in this offense.
Bills DJ Moore Trade May Lead to Keon Coleman Departure; 3 Potential Fits
Buffalo is also sending a second-round pick of this year’s draft and a fifth-round selection for Moore. This means the team is more than committed to making him the star since the Stefon Diggs era for Allen. The Bills hoped to have had that in Coleman, but his “maturity issues” prevented him from acclimating to this offense. While the Bills don’t plan on trading him, it’s still noted that the team benched him multiple times throughout the 2025 regular season, and apparently, the coaching staff “pushed” Bills Owner Terry Pegula to draft Coleman.
It seems like Coleman wasn’t even in the plans at the start. Selected as a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the former Florida State and Michigan State product has a chance to start fresh. If the Bills, which they will likely hear offers, they will be monitoring the trade market for Coleman. The wide receiver is still 22-years-old and could quickly adapt with these three teams.
Possible Next Teams
Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers still have one of the most youngest offenses for quarterback Justin Herbert. With veteran Keenan Allen unlikely to return, a trade for Keon Coleman could be the right fit to improve the pass-game for their franchise quarterback. Quentin Johnston has struggled for the past three seasons with the team, and it’s time for them to move on. Ladd McConkey is a true star in this group, but he can’t do it alone.
Even though Coleman has to get up to speed, he could do that by joining Herbert, who this team has the potential to turn into an AFC Championship roster if they make the right moves on offense. Coleman won’t improve the team overnight, but the hope is that he could turn into another versatile WR2 to help McConkey.
New England Patriots
Meanwhile, the Patriots are getting younger themselves. After the shocking release of wide receiver Stefon Diggs, the team could be heading in the direction of overhauling the passing offense for quarterback Drake Maye. The team is projected to have about $57 million in cap space, which makes it easier for the Patriots to pull off a trade.
Coleman could be Diggs’ successor while being another potential weapon to help Kayshon Boutte and Mack Hollins.
Carolina Panthers
As for the Panthers, the team is searching for a new identity led by quarterback Bryce Young. Wide Receiver Tetairoa McMillan turned out to be phenomenal for this offense, and the Panthers will need to build on that. Xavier Legette is the lone offensive weapon that’s been shaky and could be traded to make room for Coleman. Jalen Coker, McMillan and Coleman sound like a promising, solid group for Young.
