Just like everyone expected, the Chicago Bears are 9-3 after beating the defending champs, Philadelphia Eagles, 24-15 in a career-defining game for first-year head coach Ben Johnson.
Ben Johnson After Win vs. Eagles: “We Got a Really Confident Group Right Now”
After the game, Johnson took to the podium and gave his thoughts on the Bears’ win over the Eagles:
“These guys should feel pretty good about what they just did,” Johnson said. “It’s hard to go on the road and beat a good team like that, and yet I think they still know we have got to get back to work next week.”
Johnson was then asked what message he thinks this win against the Eagles says about this team, and here’s what he had to say:
“I think it’s the same message we’ve been sending every week that we’re just gonna compete our tails off for 60 minutes. I think that’s what I know about our group. They got a lot of belief in what we’re doing. And then they got a lot of belief in themselves. They got a lot of belief, I think, in this coaching staff. So that confidence just starts to develop and continue to bubble over, so we got a really confident group right now, and we’re excited for these next five games.”
As much as Johnson wants to give credit to the guys on the field, and rightfully so, a major part of why the Bears have been so successful is thanks to him and the rest of the coaching staff. It’s been a complete 360-turnaround since Chicago fired Matt Eberflus, and the players have fully bought into what Johnson and the coaching staff have been preaching since the start of training camp.
And heck, even Ben Johnson is starting to get extremely comfortable with this squad, with a viral clip of him taking off his shirt during his ‘Good Better Best’ chant after the Bears win over the Eagles.

A Huge Credit to the Offensive Line and Run Game

During the press conference, Johnson also gave a huge shoutout to the offensive line and running back duo, and for good reason.
The entire Bears offensive line (along with cornerback Nahshon Wright) was given game balls for their performance from Johnson, and it was surreal that, after watching the offensive line last season, this year’s offensive line might just be the top O-line in the NFL.
Caleb Williams was only sacked once, and there were multiple huge holes for the runners to get upfield, thanks to the offensive line.
And because of such great offensive line play, it allowed D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai to feast on offense. The two running backs made history as they became the first RB duo to each have over 100 yards rushing in a single game since 1985. And guess who the last duo to achieve that feat was? Walter Payton and Matt Suhey.
Not just that, but according to NFL Next Gen Stats, the Bears rushed for 100 yards before contact and 185 after contact against the Eagles, and did so once earlier in the season. No other team in the NFL has achieved that feat, not even once.
It was an amazing team win, and the hope is the Bears can carry that momentum to Lambeau Field next week when they take on the Green Bay Packers.
