The Bears continue to shuffle their roster.
As part of today’s roster shuffling, the Chicago Bears signed offensive lineman Ricky Stromberg, a former 2023 third-round draft pick of the Washington Commanders, to their practice squad. Stromberg replaced offensive lineman Jake Curhan, who was signed up to the 53-man roster, and Curhan replaced Nate Davis, who was released.
The 24-year-old Stromberg injured his knee in 2023 after playing in just four games, and he was released with an injury settlement before the 2024 season started. He played mostly center at Arkansas but also started some games at guard, and during his brief time with the Commanders, he practiced at both.
Presumably healthy now after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee, the 6’4”, 313-pounder provides an interesting developmental prospect for a Bears’ offensive line that needs reinforcements.
Our lead draft analyst, Jacob Infante, shared some thoughts after the signing was announced, saying that Stromberg “looked nasty at Arkansas and played technically sound.” However, we’ll “obviously have to adjust expectations, but it’s a nice center option for Chicago.”
Our guy, Dr. Mason West, was asked about Stromberg’s knee moving forward.
Good question. Don’t love 2 surgeries for a meniscus tear. Means that either a repair failed or more damage was done post repair/shave.
To me, it says 2 things.
1) bad rehab
2) there is likely less structural integrity and a change in biomechanics going forward.
This isn’t a death knell by any means. With the right rehab and strengthening, he can have a long career. But if not, he could have recurrent knee issues.
What are your thoughts on this signing?
