CHICAGO (WGN) — Joe Thuney, who was one of the Chicago Bears’ biggest offseason moves, is staying around Halas Hall for awhile.
His agent, Mike McCartney, confirmed to WGN TV News that the Super Bowl champion and All-Pro left guard has agreed to a two-year extension with the Bears.
The extension is worth $35 million over the next two years, with $33.5 million guaranteed at signing. Thuney will make $51 million over the next three years, with an average annual value of $17.5 million.
With Thuney now set to stay in the Windy City for the next several years, the move shows Chicago’s commitment to keeping talented second-year QB Caleb Williams upright in 2025.
“Yeah, that’s definitely, I would say, one of the priorities moving forward,” Bears General Manager Ryan Poles said on extending Thuney during a press conference in April.
Thuney was in the last year of a five-year, $80 million deal he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of the 2021 NFL season.
The Bears traded a 2026 fourth-round pick to the Chiefs in March for one of the NFL’s most decorated interior linemen of the last decade. In nine NFL seasons, Thuney has been named first or second-team All-Pro four times (2019, 2022-24) and won four Super Bowls—two with the New England Patriots (2017, 2019) and two with Kansas City (2023-24).
Thuney joins center Drew Dalman and guard Jonah Jackson as new additions that completely revamp the interior offensive line for Poles and new head coach Ben Johnson.
The Bears kick off their OTA practices Tuesday at Halas Hall following rookie mini camp.
