Chicago Bears breakout cornerback Nahshon Wright is heading into an important offseason, one that could determine the next chapter of his NFL career. After emerging as an unexpected difference-maker in the Bears’ secondary this season, Wright is set to become a free agent, and his future remains unclear. But if it were up to him, he’s made it clear: he loves Chicago.
Nahshon Wright Expresses Desire to Stay in Chicago as Free Agency Looms

During a recent appearance on 670 The Score, Wright spoke candidly about his contract status, his conversations with his agent, and his genuine desire to remain with the franchise that gave him an opportunity to revitalize his career. Despite the uncertainty and the lack of communication from the Bears so far, Wright emphasized both loyalty and gratitude when discussing the organization.
“Me and my agent have spoke about it and what it could look like, but no, we haven’t heard anything from Chicago’s end,” Wright said. “But I mean we talked about it and I told them that I would like to be here, obviously, due to the fact that they believed in me. DA [Dennis Allen], he’s a great defensive coordinator. Ben [Johnson], he’s doing a great job leading this team, so me and my agent definitely had dialogues about it but you know we haven’t heard anything yet.”
For Wright, Chicago represents more than just a football opportunity; it’s a place where his talent was recognized and where he was trusted to play significant snaps in a defense that asks a lot from its players. And under DA and Ben Johnson, Wright carved out a meaningful role and now has the second-most Pro Bowl votes out of all cornerbacks in the NFL.
Strong Support System Solidifies Wright’s Connection to the City
Beyond his on-field performance, Wright’s connection to Chicago extends off the field. When asked about the relationships he’s built within the organization and the city itself, Wright highlighted how much support he has around him.
“I have a pretty good support group here that comes and supports and makes sure that I feel welcomed…the love is definitely real here,” Wright shared.

That love has translated into confidence and a sense of belonging. Players often talk about culture being a deciding factor in free agency, and Wright’s comments reflect that Chicago has become a meaningful place for him off the field as well. Chicago took a chance on Wright, and in return, he delivered in some of the biggest moments this season.
The problem isn’t the Bears wanting to keep Wright; it’s the salary.
The Bears are currently slated to head into free agency with just $1.24 million, according to Over the Cap, and Wright is projected to make around $11 million per season, according to Over the Cap.
For now, Wright remains hopeful. Now, it’s up to the Bears to see if they can manage around the salary cap and re-sign him.
