3 Biggest Contract Steals The Chargers Have On Roster

July 5, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

In the dead of the off-season, there is really not much to talk about. Trust me, I have been staring at a blank white screen for an hour, trying to think of anything that is worth reading. That said, why not speak about the strongest price-to-performance contracts that the Chargers currently have on the roster?

Note: Rookie contracts will not count in this assessment

3 Biggest Contract Steals The Chargers Have On Roster

Khalil Mack – Veteran Discount?

Khalil Mack is the first name that comes to mind when considering the best Chargers contracts on the current roster. Mack has become a Chargers legend since his arrival in 2022, making three straight Pro Bowls, one of which was an incredible 17-sack performance in 2023.

His contract, being a one-year, $18 million dollar deal, is obviously a sign of a veteran discount. This ranks him 16th out of all EDGE defenders in annual contract value. The names around the future Hall of Fame EDGE rusher are: Bradley Chubb, Bryce Huff and Jonathan Greenard. All of which have yet to reach an All-Pro team in their entire careers. Showing that the 34-year-old is severely undervalued strictly due to his age.

Cameron Dicker – The Most Underrated Kicker In The League

Another player that Chargers fans should be absolutely ecstatic to have on their team is Cameron Dicker. “Dicker the Kicker” was a complete surprise for the team, who signed him only due to injuries, expecting him to only fill in until their then Kicker, Dustin Hopkins, was healthy.

Dicker missed ONE kick the entire ten games he was a part of the team in 2022, allowing for the Chargers to trade Hopkins away and give the job to the Texas Alumni. After a tendered season in 2023, Dicker was extended to a four-year deal worth $22.04 million with $12.5 million in guarantees.

This contract ranks him third across all Kickers in the NFL. However, the argument can really be made that he is the best kicker in the league. If you do not believe me, check out this stat by Kicker Update on X (formerly known as Twitter):

3 kicks away from HISTORY 🏆#Chargers K Cameron Dicker needs 3 more field goal attempts to become the most accurate kicker of all-time (min. 100 attempts).

Tyler Conklin – Possibly The Best Chargers Contract of The Off Season

The last member of this list is one of the Chargers’ newest additions, Tyler Conklin. The former Minnesota Viking and New York Jet has been a solid pass catcher in all of his spots, doing so with generally lackluster Quarterback play. Last two seasons with the Jets, he had 621 receiving yards with Zach Wilson and 449 yards with the corpse of Aaron Rodgers.

Now with the Chargers, he signed a one-year, $3 million dollar deal to come help Justin Herbert and this young wide receiver room. This smaller deal for the soon-to-be 30-year-old former fifth-round pick ranks him 42nd out of all tight ends.

This contract’s average value is in line with guys like Johnny Mundt, Drew Sample and Adam Trautman, who are all backups. Between all of them, they have a career high of 349 receiving yards in a season. If Conklin can create an early connection with Herbert in a Greg Roman offense that loves tight ends, he will easily top that 349-yard mark from the tight ends that are contractually around him best seasons.
