Overview, Film Analysis, And 2025 Scouting Report Of Texas Tech TE Jalin Conyers

  • 6’ 3”
  • 260 lbs
  • Arms: 33 1/4”
  • Hands: 9 7/8”

2025 NFL Combine Results:

  • 40-Yard Dash: 4.74 seconds
  • 10-Yard Split: 1.62 seconds
  • 20-Yard Shuttle: 4.27 seconds
  • Vertical Jump: 35.5”
  • Broad Jump: 10’ 1”
  • 3-Cone Drill: 6.94 seconds

Player Background:

Jalin Conyers was a four-star recruit coming out of Gruver High School in the state of Texas. He was considered a top-five tight end in the country after making the transition from quarterback late in his high school career. Between LSU, Georgia and Ohio State, he was a hot commodity in the eyes of many powerhouse programs. He ended up committing to play for the Oklahoma Sooners during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

Conyers was a quick departure from the University of Oklahoma. He never saw game action there and wound up transferring to Arizona State prior to the 2021 season. In 34 games over the next three seasons, he posted 846 yards and six touchdowns on 74 receptions. The Sun Devils gave him an opportunity at quarterback when aligning in the wildcat formation. He threw six passes and completed five of them for a total of 20 passing yards.

After transferring to Texas Tech for his final season, the Red Raiders utilized Conyers as a runner, passer and receiver. He tied his career-high with five touchdown receptions, threw a 20-yard touchdown and tallied two rushing touchdowns on eight carries. No matter where he was at the college level, he contributed as a hybrid playmaker on offense.

Accolades:

  • 2025 East-West Shrine Bowl Participant
  • Second-team All-Big 12 (2024)
  • Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 (2022)

Best Tools/Pros:

Jalin Conyers is incredible after the catch. His speed in the open field is deceptive and he pairs that with movement skills nobody should have at his size. There are plays on film where defenders have the angle but don’t account for his open-field ability. He gains extra yardage on almost every play due to his body control and ability to work through contact. The best way to describe him as a runner is deceptive, fluid and decisive which are traits often given to running backs, not tight ends.

Conyers is a difficult matchup for any defender in one-on-one situations downfield. He understands how to utilize his big frame and get the most out of his frame. His hands are extremely strong when facing immediate contact during the process of the catch. He can pluck the ball away from his frame better than the majority of tight ends in this draft class. He never reveals his hands too early and puts himself in a good position to come down with the ball.

Tools to Improve/Cons:

Jalin Conyers doesn’t bring much in the blocking game. His technique needs a lot of work for him to contribute as a blocker in the NFL. Rather than throwing his body at the defender, he needs to trust his size and utilize his play strength. He doesn’t sustain blocks or look comfortable blocking by himself. His inabilities as a blocker were masked by offensive coordinators putting him in motion before engaging in an assignment.

Conyers isn’t developed as a route runner. He isn’t as fluid during his routes as he is after the catch. A lot of his receptions came on simplified routes like crossers, slants or designed screens. He will never create a lot of separation from defenders in man coverage and doesn’t get off the line quickly enough to consistently threaten the seam. It would be nice to see him put in more effort when a play breaks down and work himself open for the quarterback.

Potential Team Fits:

  • Baltimore Ravens
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • San Francisco 49ers

NFL Projection:

Jalin Conyers is best described as a hybrid offensive weapon. He is a threat to throw the football, he can bring value as a short-yardage runner and is athletic after the catch. Front offices could see an opportunity to use him right away on designated plays or maybe try to develop him further as a route runner and blocker. Either way, he is worth the chance in the later rounds of the draft.

Prospect Grade:

  • Early 5th – Early 6th

Film Exposures:

  • vs Oklahoma State (2024)
  • vs Colorado (2024)
  • vs Washington State (2023)
