The Latest Buzz on 5-Star, Top-10 National Prospects in 2026

August 25, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

The latest buzz on five-star, top-10 national prospects in the 2026 class is intriguing. It’s also fluid. That’s because of the top-10 overall players in this cycle, per the industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking, only one prospect has verbally committed to a college program. Experts say the slowness of pledges in the 2026 class stems from the ongoing changes and evolution of collegiate athletics.

The Latest Buzz on 5-Star, Top-10 National Prospects in 2026

In college basketball, factors such as the transfer portal’s explosion, direct revenue-sharing, third-party NIL deals and conference realignment are coming into play. That, in turn, has led many top 2026 prospects to hold off announcing a verbal commitment to a college team, as the summer will soon turn to fall.

However, the official visit season in high school hoops will soon heat up amid the fall recruiting period. Plus, as the 2025-26 high school campaign gets underway in a few months, more rising seniors will likely reveal a college decision. Oftentimes, players like to get their commitment announcement done before their senior season starts.

Here is The Latest Buzz on Elite 2026 Prospects

Tyran Stokes

Stokes is a five-star small forward and No. 1 overall in the Rivals Industry Ranking. Per the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, Louisville and Kentucky are the leaders for the standout at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. Arkansas is also a contender for Stokes.

Brandon McCoy

Duke is the overwhelming favorite to land the McCoy, a five-star combo guard. The No. 2 national prospect will be a senior at St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, Calif.

Jordan Smith Jr.

The five-star shooting guard has a top six of Arkansas, Duke, Georgetown, Indiana, Kentucky and Syracuse. Smith, No. 3 nationally, is an All-American at St. Paul VI Catholic High School in Chantilly, Va. Duke is No. 1 in his recruitment these days, with Kentucky at No. 2. However, other suitors such as Georgetown and Syracuse have recruited Smith hard for a long time.

Caleb Holt

The five-star shooting guard hasn’t made any sort of list cut yet, although he does have upcoming official visits scheduled to Kentucky, Alabama and Auburn. The No. 4 national prospect is out of the powerhouse Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Currently, Auburn is No. 1, followed by Alabama, in Holt’s recruiting process.

Dylan Mingo

The nation’s No. 1 point guard, a five-star prospect and No. 5 overall in this cycle, recently took an official visit to Washington. As a result, the Huskies are in the lead for Mingo, a standout at Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, N.Y. However, as he takes more visits, this will likely change. Suitors that could land an official visit from Mingo include Virginia, Baylor, UConn, Miami, N.C. State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and Alabama.

Anthony Thompson

The five-star small forward, No. 6 overall in the 2026 cycle, just made a trip to North Carolina. Thompson has set upcoming official visits to Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana, Texas and Kentucky. Ohio State and Indiana are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, for Thompson these days. He attends the Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio.

Cam Williams

Arizona is out in front for the five-star power forward, followed by Southern California and Texas. However, Williams has numerous official visits coming up, and his recruitment seems fairly open at this point. Williams, the country’s No. 1 power forward and No. 7 overall player, attends St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Phoenix.

Christian Collins

The five-star small forward’s recruitment could boil down to Southern California and Kentucky. Collins, No. 8 nationally, plays alongside McCoy at St. John Bosco in California.

Jason Crowe Jr.

Crowe, a five-star shooting guard, verbally committed to Missouri last month. The country’s No. 9 overall prospect is a rising senior at Inglewood High School in Inglewood, Calif.

Baba Oladotun

Oladotun, a five-star small forward, recently re-classified. He had been the No. 1 national prospect in the 2027 class, but after moving to 2026, Oladotun is No. 10 overall. Maryland is the leader for the standout at James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring, Md. Oladotun will officially visit the Terrapins in mid-September.
