The Chicago Bulls have been in basketball purgatory of late. For three straight years, they have been a Play-In Tournament team. In all three, they have not advanced into the postseason bracket. Most teams would do what they can to get out of that territory, but it seems as if the Bulls have almost strived for it. This offseason, they are expected to retain guard Josh Giddey, who is entering restricted free agency. Could that re-signing lead into a Coby White trade being completed by Chicago?

Could Coby White Be Traded By The Bulls?
There aren’t many teams (other than the Brooklyn Nets) out there that have the necessary cap space to splurge on free agents this offseason. That’s why it seems likely that the Bulls shouldn’t have an issue bringing back Giddey, who really turned it on after the All-Star break for Chicago.
The Bulls roster was certainly chock-full of guards this season. After White was utilized as the starting point guard in 2023-24, he moved to more of an off-guard role with the addition of Giddey. With Chicago expected to still roster many backcourt figures next season, Evan Sidery of Forbes reports that rival teams believe White could potentially be available for trade.
As the Bulls are preparing to sign Josh Giddey to a new long-term extension, rival teams believe Coby White could be made available in trade talks.

The 25-year-old White just completed his sixth season in the league, all with Chicago. The Bulls selected the 6-foot-5 guard seventh overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. This season saw him post numerous career-bests such as in scoring (20.4), steals (0.9), field goal percentage (45.3), and free-throw percentage (90.2). Other averages from this year include 3.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists. He shot 37.0% from beyond the arc on high volume (7.9 attempts per outing). White dropped a career-high 44 points in a game against the Orlando Magic on March 6.
Full Backcourt In Chicago
With Giddey likely coming back, the Bulls will still roster numerous other guards that play rotational minutes. Lonzo Ball, Kevin Huerter, and Ayo Dosunmu are all signed for next season. Dalen Terry usually splits his time at shooting guard/small forward.
Tre Jones also looked impressive in his 18 outings after Chicago acquired him as part of the Zach LaVine trade. He will be an unrestricted free agent though, thus he may not return. One would expect Jevon Carter to opt into his $6.8+ million player option for 2025-26. The Bulls have the 12th pick in next weeks’s draft, but it would be surprising if they didn’t go with a frontcourt player, particularly one that could take over as the starting center eventually after Nikola Vucevic.
It may behoove the Bulls to trade White if they come to the decision that they don’t want to shell out the necessary money to bring him back after this season. Next season will be the last of his current contract. As a restricted free agent, White agreed to a three-year, $36 million deal in the 2023 offseason.
