NBA Fans React To The Blockbuster De’Aaron Fox Trade

February 4, 2025 by The Spun

The 5 Most Impressive Super Bowl Records (1:05)

The NBA couldn’t let the weekend end without another major trade.

After the stunning Luka Doncic/Anthony Davis transaction unfolded overnight Sunday, the Sacramento Kings, San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls engaged in a three-team blockbuster tonight. All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox is headed from Sacramento to San Antonio, which was reportedly his top destination, while the Kings are adding high-scoring Bulls guard Zach LaVine.

The full trade is as follows, via ESPN’s Shams Charania: Fox and Jordan McLaughlin to the Spurs, LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks and three second-round picks to the Kings and Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter and a first-round pick to Chicago.

This behemoth of a deal has hoops fans and media buzzing on social media.

Full trade:

Spurs: De’Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin

Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)

Bulls: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS https://t.co/UgwylCUYAO

“The Spurs land a franchise point guard like De’Aaron Fox while keeping Vassell, Sochan, and Castle??? And only one San Antonio pick heading over to the Kings? Some of y’all owe that man Brian Wright an apology,” a Spurs fan said.

“spurs doing exactly what a team should do when its a one horse race for a player. stand your ground and make the agent for that player do his job. they gave up nothing of serious value for Fox,” a Lakers fan added.

“De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama are going to be absurd,” chimed in Brian Rauf of Heat Check College Basketball.

“literally a whole new league before the all star game,” a fourth person joked.

“What is even going on in the Association?” another person asked.

Fox, who is averaging 25.0 points, 6.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game this season, will now have the chance to team up with San Antonio’s budding superstar Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs are currently 21-25 on the season, two games back of the Kings (24-24) for the final spot in the Western Conference Play-In Tournament. As for the Bulls, they have the worst record of the three teams involved (21-29) but are still holding onto the 10th and final spot in the Eastern Conference Play-In.

The 2025 NBA trade deadline is this Thursday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. ET.
