Michigan Carrying Momentum with Fastest-Rising 2026 Prospect

August 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Basketball

A top national analyst says Michigan is currently a front-runner for the fastest-rising 2026 prospect.

Michigan head coach Dusty May, right, is congratulated by U-M president Santa Ono after 101-53 win over Cleveland State at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024.

Michigan Carrying Momentum with Fastest-Rising 2026 Prospect

In recent months, 2026 four-star wing/power forward Quinn Costello has seen his stock soar more than any other high school player in the rising senior class. The 6-foot-10 Costello has played well this spring and summer on the AAU circuit and at other showcases with college coaches in attendance.

His scholarship offer sheet has exploded of late. What’s more, Costello earlier this week skyrocketed in the 2026 national rankings. He’s taken unofficial visits to the Wolverines and fellow Big Ten Conference school Michigan State.

Media reports indicate that Costello will take official visits in the coming months. Having amassed nearly 30 scholarship offers, Costello has yet to unveil any sort of list cut. That will probably occur as he visits college campuses.

Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue are likely to get official visits from Costello, according to Rivals senior national recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw. Others trying to land official visits from Costello include Illinois, Minnesota and Notre Dame.

Writes Shaw: “Speaking with one source, they told me they feel Michigan and Michigan State are ahead of the group with Michigan carrying some momentum heading into visits. … Continue to watch if a visit schedule gets put out and if a timeline starts to emerge.”

Quinn Costello Had a Breakout Spring and Summer

Costello is entering his senior year at The Newman School in Boston. In recent months, he has earned high praise from analysts and scouts for his performances at various events. Some of those include the Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas, the NBPA Top 100 camp in Rock Hill, S.C., and the NEPSAC showcase in Avon, Conn.

During the most recent AAU season, experts deemed Costello a top performer as he competed for the 17U team of the Boston-based Middlesex Magic in the Under Armour Association (“UAA”) league.

Last month, at the UAA’s season-ending playoffs, Costello helped guide the Middlesex Magic to a third-place finish. In the spring, the Under Armour Association league held two sessions. The scouting experts at The Circuit named Costello to their All-UAA third team when he averaged 10.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

In recent days, Rivals updated its 2026 national rankings. Costello made one of the largest jumps around the country. Rivals currently places him at No. 27 overall, No. 5 at power forward and No. 1 in Massachusetts. The industry-generated Rivals Industry Ranking and ESPN situate Costello in the top 50.

Over at 247Sports, he is No. 70 nationally. However, when that recruiting service refreshes its 2026 ratings, Costello should enter the top 50, if not higher than thatHis full offer sheet includes schools such as Michigan State, Florida State, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State, Purdue, Syracuse and Texas, among many others.
