St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church: 101 W. Burrell Dr. — St. Matthias will have a pet blessing at 10 a.m. on October 4 in celebration of St. Francis’ Feast Day. All are invited to bring their pets to the front entrance of the church for a special blessing from Father Jim. The church will have its parish picnic at 12 p.m. October 5. The day at the park will feature live music, food, games, and more. The event is for Parishioners only. An “Our Lady of the Rosary” all-day rosary event is set for October 7. Our Lady of Consolation: 8303 W. Taft St. — The Catholic Foundation for Northwest Indiana will host the 2025 Red Mass at 8 a.m. on Oct. 15 at Our Lady of Consolation. The Red Mass tradition goes back to 1245 in the courts of Paris, France as a special occasion to ask for blessings on the legal profession. Lawyers, financial planners and accountants are invited, and 1 CLE credit will be available. A breakfast reception will follow.
Diocese of Gary Pastoral Center: 9292 Broadway — The Diocese will host The Creed Series, marking the 1,700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesdays through Nov. 12. Indiana State Prison: 1 Park Row St. — There will be a prayer vigil for an end to the death penalty and all victims of violence at 8 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the parking lot of the prison.
