The Chicago White Sox are expected to call up the No. 2 prospect in their system, Kyle Teel. He was scratched from his start tonight with Triple-A Charlotte. Teel, 23, is the 26th overall prospect by MLB Pipeline and is one of the more well-rounded catching prospects in recent memory. Chris Cotillo of MassLive was the first to report the news of Teel’s call-up.
Here in Charlotte, Kyle Teel was scratched from the lineup shortly before first pitch and he’s expected to join the White Sox for his major league debut.

White Sox to Call Up Kyle Teel
Teel, a first-round pick in the 2023 draft, came to Chicago as the centerpiece of the Garrett Crochet trade with the Boston Red Sox. He headlined a package along with Braden Montgomery, Chase Meidroth, and Wikelman Gonzalez. After quickly becoming one of Chicago’s top prospects, Teel will look to bring some pop to a White Sox team that once again finds itself at the bottom of the American League Central with a 20-43 record.

In 50 games with Triple-A Charlotte in 2025, Teel was hitting .295/.394/.492 with eight home runs. His performance was recognized with the White Sox Minor Leaguer of the Month in May. The catcher has a career .401 OBP in the minors. He excels at getting on base, with a 14.1% walk rate. The White Sox should immediately pencil Teel into the middle of their lineup. However, the club still needs to determine where he will spend the majority of his time in the field.
Where Will Teel Play?
The club currently has Edgar Quero and Korey Lee splitting time at catcher. They could consider moving Teel to first base as he transitions to the big leagues. Quero, 22, is hitting .256 in 121 at-bats so far, and has yet to see a long ball in 38 games. Lee, 26, is hitting .250 in 14 games this season, but brings much-needed experience to the club’s young rotation.
Teel has been taking first base reps in practice recently, but has never played the position in a professional game. When he’s not behind the plate or at first base, he will almost certainly be in the lineup as the club’s designated hitter.
