The White Sox have signed left-handed reliever Ryan Borucki to a minor league deal, the team announced early Sunday afternoon. The agreement also comes with an invite to Spring Training next month.
Borucki, who turns 32 at the end of March, was selected by the Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. Taken out of Mundelein High School in the north suburbs, Borucki reached the majors in 2018 and showed promise as a starter before injuries forced him to transition into a reliever. After his first stint with Toronto, Borucki made stops with the Mariners and Pirates, providing mixed results as he jumped between Triple-A and the majors.
The southpaw most recently began the 2025 season in Pittsburgh and had some effective relief appearances early before his inconsistencies led to his release in August. He subsequently signed a minor-league deal with the Blue Jays, spending a brief stint in Triple-A before rejoining the major league roster in September. When all was said and done, Borucki made 39 major-league relief appearances between the two clubs, posting a 4.63 ERA, 32 strikeouts, and a 1.29 WHIP over 35.0 innings.
For the White Sox, this signing allows them to work with Borucki and see if he can find some early success in camp. A strong showing in Arizona could open up opportunities as a lefty reliever in Chicago. As a bonus, Borucki grew up a fan of the South Siders being so close to the squad, making the possibility of earning a roster spot that much more special.
