The White Sox are still making moves to close out 2025.
According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the team has signed outfielder Jarred Kelenic to a minor-league deal. The agreement also includes a non-roster invite to Spring Training, per the report.
Kelenic, 26, was drafted sixth overall out of high school by the Mets in 2018. He was quickly traded to the Mariners later that offseason as part of a blockbuster deal involving Robinson Canó and Edwin Díaz and debuted with the team in 2021. Kelenic spent the next three years in Seattle, before an offseason trade sent him to Atlanta prior to 2024.
Over parts of five major league seasons between the two teams, Kelenic has slashed .211/.282/.376 with 49 home runs and 156 RBIs in 1,344 plate appearances. His best season came in 2023, his final with the Mariners, where he hit .253/.327/.419 and posted a 110 wRC+ over 105 games. Though he’s always shown flashes of his power and athleticism, the Wisconsin native has struggled with his plate discipline and largely under-performed given the lofty expectations placed on him.
For the White Sox, however, this sort of move could be worth the dice roll. Kelenic appears likely to compete for one of the team’s outfield spots during camp. Being as young as he is, the former top prospect still comes with considerable upside, especially if he manages to improve offensively under the guidance of Ryan Fuller.
