The White Sox announced several roster moves ahead of their homestand. They are as follows:
- Reinstated INF Lenyn Sosa from the IL (a right hip flexor strain) and returned from his rehab assignment in Triple-A Charlotte;
- Optioned INF/OF Brooks Baldwin to Triple-A Charlotte;
- Sent LHP Fraser Ellard on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Charlotte.
Sosa, 25, just completed his rehab assignment with Charlotte over the weekend, where he played in three games and recorded one double in 10 at-bats. The infielder originally landed on the injured list in early June with a right hip flexor strain that fortunately didn’t sideline him too long. Before his injury, Sosa was hitting .274/.291/.383 with four homers, 17 RBI, and an 88 wRC+ in 57 games. The White Sox currently have him slated in as Tuesday night’s starting first baseman.
Instead of getting a more extended stint in the majors, Baldwin finds himself on a plane back to Charlotte. The converted outfielder slashed .380/.437/.734 with seven homers, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored across 19 games with the Knights during his original demotion in mid-May. After being recalled ahead of this weekend’s series, Baldwin struck out three times in three at-bats against the Rangers.
It seems likely that further shuffling of the roster and perhaps some mid-summer trades will give Baldwin another opportunity in the majors later this season. Until then, the 24-year-old should see consistent playing time with the Knights, where he’ll continue to hone his outfield skills and offensive game until an opening presents itself.
Finally, the White Sox could soon be getting a lefty addition to their bullpen in Ellard. The 27-year-old has spent the majority of the 2025 campaign on the shelf, most recently due to a left lat strain. Now, he’ll be heading to Charlotte to begin his rehab assignment. No timetable has been given for his major league return, though it’s fair to assume Ellard could be back as early as this weekend.
Ellard currently owns a 6.75 ERA over 6.2 innings after posting a 3.75 ERA in 2024.
