The post White Sox recall Baldwin, DFA Palacios among 5 roster moves appeared first on Sox On 35th.
The White Sox announced the following five roster moves on Friday:
- Recalled INF Brooks Baldwin from Triple-A Charlotte;
- Returned LHP Tyler Gilbert (MCL sprain in his left knee) from his Triple-A rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 15-day IL;
- Claimed 1B Ryan Noda off waivers from the Boston Red Sox and option him to Charlotte;
- Optioned RHP Owen White to Charlotte;
- Designated OF Joshua Palacios for assignment.
Baldwin, 24, headlines the moves after tearing it up with the Knights. Since being demoted in mid-May, the converted outfielder is hitting .380/.437/.734 with seven homers, 17 RBI, 19 runs scored across 19 games. The White Sox will look for him to carry over that success, after he got off to a .214/.255/.328 start in his first 45 major league games this year.
Palacios, 29, will head to waivers after Baldwin took his roster spot. The outfielder didn’t bring much to the lineup, slashing .203/.292/.305 with three homers, a 72 wRC+, and -0.7 fWAR. He also owned a 8.3% walk rate compared to his 24.8% strikeout rate in 145 plate appearances. Assuming he clears waivers, it’s likely the White Sox will stash Palacios in Triple-A Charlotte as a depth piece for the remainder of the year.
Gilbert, 31, threw two scoreless innings of relief on Friday night following his reinstatement. It marked the first time since the Crosstown Classic that he appeared in game action. Gilbert owns a 4.20 ERA across 15 innings so far, and now gives Venable a lefty option out of the bullpen if the White Sox keep him in the majors.
Finally, following Friday’s trade that sent first baseman Andrew Vaughn to Milwaukee, the White Sox claimed Ryan Noda off waivers from Boston. A former 15th-round pick in 2017, Noda has already made stints with the Triple-A affiliates for both the Angels and Red Sox this season. He’s hitting just .204/.404/.375 with seven homers and 21 RBI across 51 total games between the pair of teams. With Elko struggling in the majors, it’s possible the White Sox give him a shot.
Following Friday’s moves, the White Sox’s 40-man roster remains at 40.
