The White Sox announced three roster moves before Friday night’s game in Denver.
- Recalled SS Colson Montgomery from Triple-A Charlotte;
- Returned LHP Fraser Ellard (left lat strain) from a rehab assignment with Charlotte, reinstated him from the 60-day injured list, and optioned him back to Triple-A;
- Designated INF Vinny Capra for assignment
Montgomery, 23, was originally drafted by the White Sox with the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. The highly touted infielder has been through an interesting 2025 season, so his season stats can be slightly misleading.
In 55 games for the Knights, Montgomery is hitting .218/.298/.435 with 11 homers and 30 RBI. However, most of this production has occurred after working in Arizona with Ryan Fuller, the organization’s Director of Hitting. Since his return on May 13, the shortstop is slashing .270/.353/.574 with 8 home runs, 24 RBI, and a .926 OPS. Just in the last seven days alone, he hit .381 with a 1.292 OPS, highlighted by a walk-off single in Wednesday night’s game.
As part of the corresponding move, Capra found himself as the odd man out after an abysmal showing. The soon-to-be 29-year-old hit just .190/.205/.238 with two doubles and two RBIs over 23 games.
Following today’s roster moves, the White Sox’s 40-man roster remains at 38 with additional moves likely on the horizon.
