Another day on the farm with a rain delay, a close loss, and a couple of blowout games
Norfolk Tides 11, Charlotte Knights 3 (Statcast box)
Charlotte started behind the 8-ball and stayed far behind the entire game. Justin Dunn’s 3 2⁄3 -inning start gave the Tides a 6-1 lead within the first half of the game. Chris Rodriguez didn’t help the Knights claw back into the game, either, allowing three runs over three innings.
Tim Elko had another home run, at least, as he continues to make his case to replace Andrew Vaughn, but that’s about as eventful as it got on the hitting side. The Knights only managed to knock six hits off the Tides’ strong pitching crew in a very unentertaining game.

Charlotte saw its seven-game winning streak snapped, and fell back worse than .500, at 15-16.
Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Birmingham Barons
Postponed due to rain; makeup game scheduled May 3 as a doubleheader.
Greensboro Grasshoppers 11, Winston-Salem Dash 9
The Dash played toe-to-toe with the Grasshoppers despite losing their 16th game. Cole McConnell started his active night in the second inning with an RBI double to tie the game 1-1, and a throwing error from Greensboro’s Hung-Leng Chang quickly gave the Dash the lead. However, things quickly got out of hand when Seth Keener gave up six runs in the second, blowing the game out of proportion with nothing more than small-ball scoring.
The next few innings proved to be an even competition, but the Dash finally broke out of their tit-for-tat mentality to try and stage a comeback in the seventh. From a passed ball and two-run RBI single, the Dash cut the lead to only two. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Jeral Perez went down on strikes after a six-pitch battle featuring nothing but strikes and fouls. The Dash fell short, and to 9-16, but still deserve applause for their valiant effort.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 9, Augusta GreenJackets 1
Kannapolis blew the Green Jackets out of the water. Lyle Miller-Green got the game rolling with a solo homer in the second, and Ryan Burrowes added a run to the lead with an RBI single. The GreenJackets scored their only run off a balk from Gabriel Rodriguez, but Kanny owned the rest of the game. Some singles, walks, and sac-flies later, the Cannon Ballers had run away with the lead, leaving Augusta in the dust.
The bullpen came through big-time for the Cannon Ballers. Rodriguez had a short 2 ⅔ -inning outing, but the relievers pitched the rest of the game beautifully. They only gave up four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters over 6 ⅓ innings. Liam Paddack was the star of the bullpen with 1 ⅓ innings, a walk, and four strikeouts. The lineup and pitchers seemed to be in sync in Kannapolis’ fourth-straight win.
