Bryan Ramos hit a grand slam, and the affiliates went 5-1 in an excellent day for the farm system
Charlotte Knights 10, Memphis Red Birds 4 (Game 1, 7 innings) (Statcast Box)
The Knights opened the doubleheader in Memphis with a dominant offensive performance against the Redbirds.
Davis Martin, 28, made his first appearance since he went on the IL last month due to a right forearm strain. Martin was not exactly on top of his game, as he allowed two runs on three hits in two innings. However, given how well the Knights hit the ball, Martin did not have to perform admirably for Charlotte to win.
The Knights scored one in the first, one in the second, two in the third, and four in the fourth to pull away. The biggest hits came from Bryan Ramos (solo homer), Korey Lee (RBI double), Jason Matthews (triple), Adam Hackenberg (RBI single), Corey Julks (RBI double), and Lee (two-run homer).
Charlotte’s bullpen got the job done, so the latter portion of the game was drama-free. Overall, the relievers combined to pitch five innings, only allowed two runs (one earned).
Charlotte Knights 9, Memphis Red Birds 4 (Game 2, 7 innings) (Statcast Box)
The Knights (45-43) kept the good times rolling in the nightcap of the doubleheader against Memphis (45-42).
Nobody scored in the first two innings, but that changed in a big way in the third frame, when Charlotte scored seven. The first four Knights who batted that inning reached base safely, with Jacob Amaya starting the huge inning with a homer. After Lee ended the streak with a strikeout, the next four Knights reached base safely, too. The exclamation point came from Ramos, who came up to bat with the bases loaded and one out. Ramos proceeded to do something fantastic.

Suddenly, after the grand slam, the score was 7-0, and that was more than enough insurance for the Knights to withstand a late rally.
Interestingly, Charlotte’s final two runs came on back-to-back HBPs with the bases loaded.
Birmingham Barons 6, Biloxi Shuckers 4
The Barons (45-38) took a 2-0 lead in their series against the mighty Shuckers (49-34) with another solid performance.
Barons starter Shane Murphy, 24, was terrific yet again, only allowing two runs in seven innings. Besides an RBI double and a solo homer in the fifth, Biloxi struggled immensely in the early going, which is normal for an offense facing Murphy.
The Barons got on the board in the second, when Wilfred Veras tied the game by launching his seventh homer of the season. After Biloxi’s homer in the fifth, the Barons had to play from behind again, but William Bergolla provided a big spark in the sixth. Bergolla led off with a single before stealing his 22nd and 23rd bases of the season. From there, Ryan Galanie drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly.
In the eighth, with the game still tied at two, Jacob Burke led off with a single, and Rikuu Nishida walked. Bergolla grounded into a fielder’s choice in which all runners were safe, so the Barons had the bases loaded with no outs. Then, Galanie came through again, this time with a double to center to drive in a pair. Jacob Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly, and Caden Connor drove in a run with a single, and that was enough insurance.
Winston-Salem Dash 5, Greenville Drive 2
The Dash (30-52) offense evened up the series against the Drive (41-41) with a solid performance in Greenville.
Outfielder and star prospect Braden Montgomery opened up the scoring in the top of the first with a two-run blast. Montgomery got a 2-2 pitch to his liking, and he took full advantage to give the Dash an early 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, Dash starter Christian Oppor, 20, had another strong start. Oppor only allowed one run in 4 2⁄3 innings, and for his second straight start, he racked up 10 strikeouts. When Oppor left the game with two outs in the fifth, Winston-Salem had a 3-1 lead.
Jeral Perez drove in Winston-Salem’s third run with a double in the top of the fifth. The Dash extended their lead in the seventh, when Perez drove in Terrell Tatum with a sacrifice fly. A single by Braden Montgomery drove in another run, and after an excellent performance by the bullpen, Winston-Salem held on.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans 3, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 2
The Cannon Ballers (38-45) fell just short against the Pelicans (37-43) in a low-scoring battle.
Kannapolis starter Grant Umberger, 23, had another quality start. Umberger only allowed two runs in six frames, which actually increased his season ERA from 2.19 to 2.26. The Pelicans scored those two runs on an RBI double by Christian Olivo in the second and a sacrifice fly by Owen Ayers in the third.
The Cannon Ballers got one of those runs back in the fifth, when Jorge Corona went deep on a 3-2 pitch over the heart of the plate.

That cut the deficit in half, and Kannapolis scored the equalizer in the seventh, when Ryan Burrowes got hit by a pitch and stole second. T.J. McCants tied the game with an RBI double on a sharp liner to center.
However, Myrtle Beach reclaimed the lead for good in the eighth. The Pelicans opened with back-to-back singles in the eighth, and Matt Halbach followed with a walk to load the bases with no outs. The Pelicans only scored one run from that golden opportunity, but that was enough.
ACL White Sox 3, ACL Dodgers 1 (7 innings)
The pitching staff got the job done for the Complex Sox (27-23), who came out on top of the ACL Dodgers (27-23).
ACL White Sox starter Jordany Chirinos, 19, allowed a run in the first, but his outing went smoothly overall. Chirinos remained in the game for four innings, and he struck out five while only allowing that singular run. Incredibly, the bullpen was even better, allowing zero runs on one hit in three frames.
In the second, Drake Logan and Angelo Hernández drew back-to-back walks to open the inning. Logan and Hernández proceeded to score on a single by D’Angelo Tejada, and the ACL White Sox led for the rest of the game.
The ACL White Sox added an insurance run in the third. During that inning, Adrian Gil extended the inning by drawing a walk with two outs and nobody on. Logan and Hernández hit back-to-back singles, and Gil scored on the hit by Hernández.
