Birmingham and Kannapolis bring the heat while Winston-Salem and the ACL suffer defeat

Birmingham Barons 7, Biloxi Shuckers 5
The Barons (44-38) wasted no time getting on the board, with Jacob Gonzalez launching a three-run round-tripper in the top of the first, giving them a quick 3-0 lead. They continued to extend their advantage in the fourth, as Wilfred Veras added a solo shot and Jacob Burke drove in another run with a double, pushing the score to 5-0. Ryan Galanie then knocked a game-changing two-run dinger in the seventh, giving the Barons a 7-2 lead.

Birmingham starter Jake Palisch navigated through the first three innings unscathed before giving up two tallies in the fourth. He earned a quality start, tossing six frames, allowing only those two runs while giving up one walk and striking out five. The bullpen of Tyler Davis, Jarold Rosado, and Mark McLaughlin then took over for the last three frames. Despite the Shuckers mounting a late comeback attempt, scoring a tally in the seventh and two more in the eighth, Zach Franklin closed out the ninth by striking out the side, sealing the 7-5 victory for Birmingham.
Greenville Drive 2, Winston-Salem Dash 1
The Dash (29-52) offense managed only one run despite collecting eight hits and was just 1-for-8 with RISP. Their lone tally came in the sixth inning on a fielding error by the Drive’s first baseman. The grounder from Sammy Zavala plated Braden Montgomery, who singled, tying the game at 1-1. Sam Antonacci contributed with a leadoff double in the eighth, but the Dash were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity and left him stranded.

On the pitching side, Winston-Salem kept the game tight throughout. Starter Frankeli Arias allowed only one run, a solo shot in the first inning, and kept the Drive bats in check for five frames. The armbarn, including Nick Altermatt and Phil Fox, continued to limit the damage, holding the Drive scoreless until the bottom of the ninth. Unfortunately, a walk followed by a double and a walk-off single surrendered by Morris Austin in the final frame secured the Dash’s fate in the low-scoring affair.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 9, Myrtle Beach Pelicans 2
The Ballers (38-44) wasted no time pulling ahead, with Ryan Burrowes hitting a triple and scoring on a Caleb Bonemer double in the first. Kanny continued to pile on runs throughout the game, with Lyle Miller-Green driving in a tally in the third and Grant Magill adding an RBI two-bagger in the fourth. T.J. McCants also got in on the action, contributing a solo blast in the seventh. The Ballers capitalized on scoring opportunities all night, taking advantage of wild pitches and walks to extend their lead, ultimately scoring nine runs on 14 hits.

On the mound, Seth Keener delivered a strong start for Kannapolis, surrendering just one earned run through six innings. He effectively limited scoring opportunities, allowing only six hits and benefiting from a key play at the plate in the first inning, where George Wolkow’s throw cut down a runner at home. The bullpen, including Hale Sims, Carlton Perkins, and Joseph Yabbour, closed out the game, holding the Pelicans’ offense scoreless for three frames.
ACL Guardians 11, ACL White Sox 2 (Tuesday, 7 innings)
The Complex Sox’s (26-23) pitching struggled to contain the Guardians’ offense from the beginning. Starter Connor McCullough gave up four runs in only 2⁄3 of an inning, a deficit that proved way too much to overcome. The Guardians continued to extend their lead throughout the game, taking advantage of walks, stolen bases, and an error. The Guardians ultimately scored 11 runs against six different ACL Sox pitchers who combined to surrender eight free passes and 11 hits.
Offensively, the ACL Sox mustered only two runs on five hits. Their scoring came late in the game, with Adrian Gil driving in a run on a base hit in the sixth and D’Angelo Tejada adding another RBI single in the same inning. Sadly, it was far too little and way too late to have any impact on the final score.
ACL Reds 15, ACL White Sox 10 (Monday)
The ACL White Sox fell to the ACL Reds 15-10 in a high-scoring affair where the Sox offense showed flashes of brilliance but was ultimately undone by their pitching. The Sox started strong, plating two runs in the first inning and extending their lead to 3-0 in the third on a Grant Smith solo blast. However, their pitching quickly faltered, with starter Denny Lima surrendering six runs in the bottom of the third, including a three-run bomb, to fall behind 6-3.
The Complex Sox bats battled back, tying the game at six apiece in the fifth with a two-run double from Jurdrick Profar and then taking a 10-8 lead in the sixth thanks to a three-run two-bagger by D’Angelo Tejada. However, despite the Sox’s rapid-fire offense, the Reds were equally relentless in their scoring, and it ultimately proved too much for the Sox pitching staff to contain.
