Everyone on the farm but Kannapolis brought home the win, with a sneak peek into the MLB Futures game
With the All-Star break coming up next week, MLB also held their Futures Game, which is a contest that is played annually featuring MLB’s top prospects across both the American and National Leagues. In a seven-inning game, the NL Futures ended up defeating the AL Futures, 4-2.
The White Sox were represented by outfielder Braden Montgomery, who is currently with the High-A Winston-Salem Dash, and left-handed pitcher Noah Schultz, currently residing with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. Montgomery accounted for the first run driven in for the AL squad with an RBI ground out in the third inning, but didn’t fare as well for his other at-bats and finished 0-for-3 with a ground out and strikeout.
Schultz unfortunately struggled on the wrong day, and ended up with all four NL runs attributed to him along with a blown save and the loss. The lefty gave up a three-run bomb for the NL team to take the lead, and another double shortly thereafter, ultimately earning the loss on a grand scale.

Charlotte Knights 10, Memphis Redbirds 9 (Statcast box)
Charlotte (46-45) took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning and nearly blew a seven-run lead to the Redbirds (47-43), surviving with a run scored in the top of the ninth to close it out with a 10-9 win. Yoendrys Gómez took the mound first for the Knights and lasted for five innings of decent work with two runs scored on four hits and three walks while striking out six.
Charlotte definitely attempted to lose, as Wikelman González got beat up for six runs in the bottom of the eighth, bringing Memphis within one run of tying the game. It was extremely good news for González that the offense was able to mash for 13 hits and 10 runs on the day, and went 4-for-11 with runners in scoring position.
Corey Julks and Andre Lipcius drove in two runs apiece with a double and a home run for each player, respectively. Julks and Dominic Fletcher led the team with three hits each on the day, and Fletcher had himself two doubles on the day as well. Outside of Lipcius, the other player to hit a bomb was Vinny Capra who went 1-for-4 on the day with three strikeouts, because of course.
Birmingham Barons 9, Biloxi Shuckers 5
The Barons (48-38) offense was red-hot Saturday, out-hitting the Shuckers (49-37) by 14 (18 compared to four) to provide some run support behind Riley Gowens and defeat Biloxi, 9-5. Gowens made his 17th start of the season and gave up just one run on two hits and two walks, and struck out five to cap it off. The righthander gave up back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the third, but otherwise didn’t have to deal with too many jams.
The Barons scored in five of the nine innings, with their biggest rally coming in the fourth for four runs without a single extra-base hit. Every Birmingham batter managed to snag a hit, and five players contributed to the runs driven in, and three players came up with three hits: William Bergolla, Ryan Galanie, and Mario Camilletti. Galanie’s three RBIs led the Barons for the night, however, and Caden Connor mashed the sole Birmingham long ball.
The bullpen wasn’t on their best game, though Andrew Dalquist was mostly solid in his two innings of work. He didn’t give up a hit and was the only reliever not to give up a tally …. but he did walk the most batters (four). Even with the four runs given up from the arm barn, the offense already had put this one to bed and Birmingham will head into Sunday with a five-game win streak.
Winston-Salem Dash 15, Greenville Drive 5
Along with the Barons, Winston-Salem (32-53) kept up the offensive hot streak and put up 14 hits against the Drive (42-43) in their 15-5 win. Manuel Veloz made the start and gave up four runs on four hits (including one dinger), and he struck out three but also walked four. Thankfully the run support was there for Veloz, though Luke Bell earned his fourth win of the season after his relief appearance. Nick Altermatt received the save, and likely had the strongest pitching performance with three innings of no-hit ball and four strikeouts.
Every Dash player got a hit during this game except for Samuel Zavala, who still managed to score twice and drive in one run. The offensive contribution was spread across the lineup as five of the Dash drove in two runs. While there were no balls hit out of the yard, Winston-Salem dripped three doubles and a triple, with Matt Hogan accounting for one of each.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans 5, Kannapolis Cannon Ballers 0
Kannapolis (39-47) was outplayed across the board as the offense was only able to muster two hits and Luis Reyes gave up four runs in his six innings without any run support, which allowed the Pelicans (39-44) to take their third win of the series, 5-0.
Reyes allowed seven hits and struck out four, but part of his downfall was also the four walks he gave up. The bullpen was fairly solid even with Jake Curtis giving up another run (a homer) in his two innings, but without any offense it didn’t matter what the pitchers did in the end.
T.J. McCants and George Wolkow were the only Ballers players to get a hit, and Grant Magill and Nathan Archer reached base via walks, but Kanny was otherwise a snooze fest at the plate Saturday.
ACL White Sox 6, ACL Brewers 5 (8 innings)
The ACL White Sox (30-23) were trailing by two runs going into the last inning, but pulled off the comeback to tie the game at four to force the ACL Brewers (27-25) to extra innings, before walking them off for the 6-5 win. The Sox offense out-hit the Brewers, 10-6, and the pitching staff gave up just six total hits and struck out five. Fabian Ysalla took the first three-innings shift and set the stage nicely with just one run given up, and the bullpen was really efficient outside of three runs surrendered by Marcello Valladeres.
On the hitting front, two Sox batters had multi-hit games and five drove in a run. Alberston Asigen went 2-for-4 and Leandro Alsinois was 3-for-4 with two doubles, and both wrangled in one run each.
