Jairo Iriarte isn’t officially a reliever, but as James wrote up after his conversation with Matt Zaleski, there are no immediate plans to move him back to starting, which gives me the sense that the White Sox aren’t going to mess with success if his stuff comes back to him in the bullpen. Perhaps like Mike Vasil, he’ll stretch himself back out by showing an ability maintain effectiveness for a second inning … and then a third … but since the Iriarte’s second option season is halfway over, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to force that project upon him in 2025.
This being the case, if Iriarte is a reliever until he isn’t, his performance on Tuesday night is probably what it’s supposed to look like.
