The White Sox announced the following five roster moves on Monday afternoon:
- Outrighted outfielders Dominic Fletcher and Corey Julks, and right-handed pitchers Elvis Peguero and Owen White to Triple-A Charlotte;
- Outfielder Will Robertson was claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Robertson, 27, is the lone player leaving the organization as part of Monday’s moves. The outfielder played most of his season in Triple-A Charlotte and finished his brief big-league stint hitting .133/.159/.150 in 63 plate appearances (24 games) for the Sox. The highlight of his tenure came in Detroit when he made a ridiculous play to rob Spencer Torkelson of a home run on September 7.
When all is said and done, Monday’s five transactions bring the team’s 40-man roster down to 35. It’s fair to assume that at least two of these roster openings, if not more, will be used to protect certain prospects from the Rule 5 Draft later this offseason. Among the names likely to get added to the 40-man are pitchers Tanner McDougal and Peyton Pallette, though others may join the pair.
As the Rule 5 draft gets closer, our team at Sox On 35th will be providing additional coverage for players who may get protected, as well as potential targets outside the organization.
