White Sox Announce 2023 Draft Signings

July 28, 2023 by Inside The White Sox

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms with their seventh-round pick outfielder George Wolkow and 11th-round pick second baseman Rikuu Nishida from the 2023 First-Year Player Draft.

Wolkow, 17, hit .363 (37–102) with 10 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 32 RBI and 49 runs scored last season at Downers Grove (Ill.) North High School. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound Wolkow hits left-handed and throws right-handed.

Wolkow was recommended by White Sox scout JJ Lally.

Nishida, 22, batted .312 (79–253) with 16 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 37 RBI, 67 runs scored and 25 stolen bases in 2023 at the University of Oregon. The 5-foot-6, 150-pound Nishida bats left-handed and throws right-handed.

Nishida, a native of Osaka, Japan, was recommended by White Sox scout Josh Krstulovich.

With the signings, the Sox have signed 19 of 20 picks in the 2023 draft.

Chicago is expected to make additional signings in the coming days.
