Following three years on the Northside, pitcher Steve Stone returned to the White Sox when he signed with the team as a free agent on this date (Nov. 24) in 1976.
The right-hander pitched for the Sox in 1973 following two seasons with the San Francisco Giants.
After the 1973 campaign, Stone was shipped to the Cubs in the blockbuster Ron Santo deal. Stone went 23-20 in three seasons with the Cubs.
He was the ace of the 1977 “Southside Hitmen” White Sox staff, winning a team-best and then career-high 15 games.
Following a 12-wins in 1978, Stone departed for Baltimore where his career peaked with a 25-win season and the 1980 A.L. Cy Young Award.
