Three Chicagoland communities are ranked on a newly released of the nation’s 50 wealthiest suburbs, according to an online report.
Hinsdale placed seventh, with Lake Forest coming in 30th and Wilmette took 40th in the analysis offered by gobankingrate.com, a personal finance site.
The report reviewed all U.S. cities with at least 5,000 households leading to a determination of the 50 communities with the highest average household income. The rankings also factored in 2024 typical home value using data from the Zillow real estate site and metro area location.
Lake Forest ranked 30th with average household income of $284,784 and a typical home value of $1,097,029.
“While this particular ranking highlights one part of what makes Lake Forest a wonderful place to live, our community is also distinguished by its historic charm, beautiful parks and open spaces, spirit of volunteerism and philanthropy, community engagement, and so much more,” Lake Forest spokeswoman Dana Olson wrote in an email.
Wilmette was 40th with an average household income of $273,718 and a typical home value of $896,128.
“This is a reflection of the outstanding schools, parks, public safety services and other amenities that we have in Wilmette,” Village Manager Mike Braiman responded in an email. “While Wilmette is an affluent community, not everyone is affluent, and we are cognizant of that when considering the impacts of village decisions upon all Wilmette residents.”
Hinsdale placed in the top 10 with an average household income of $380,479 and a typical home value of $1,088,871.
Village Manager Kathleen Gargano did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
No other Midwestern communities made the list.
Scarsdale, NY, a New York City suburb, was deemed the wealthiest suburb in the United States.
