*1901, SOX SINGLE CLEVELAND TO DEATH: Led by Fred Hartman, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI, the White Sox rocked Charles “Bock” Baker for an American League record 23 singles in a 13-1 win over Cleveland at South Side Park.
*1926, WIN NO. 2000: Eddie Collins had three hits and Tommy Thomas pitched into the eighth as the White Sox won 9-5 at Detroit for the franchise’s 2,000th victory. The White Sox scored two in the seventh and two in the eighth as Thomas got help from James Edwards to earn his first win.
*1946, TED’S LAST HURRAH: Hall-of-Famer Ted Lyons won the final game of his career in the White Sox 4-3 victory over the Browns in the first game of a doubleheader at Comiskey Park. The win was Lyons’ 260th – a White Sox record which still stands.
*1961, NAME GAME: Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish pitched into the ninth for the win in the White Sox 4-2 victory at Kansas City. McLish left in favor of Frank Bauman with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth. Bauman got the final out for his first save.
*1973, FORSTER FINISHES WITH A FLURRY: Terry Forster finished off the Red Sox with 2.2 innings of shutout relief as the White Sox extended their winning streak to three with a 2-1 triumph at Boston. Forster struck out five and allowed four hits for his third save.
*1981, SOX BOP THE BIRDS: Highlighted by Tony Bernazard’s two-run double, the White Sox scored six runs after two out and none were on in the second inning en route to an 8-6 win over the Orioles and reigning Cy Young Award winner Steve Stone in Baltimore.
*1985, SOX FIRE UP THE “BRONX ZOO”: The White Sox edged the Yankees 4-3 on Ozzie Guillen’s walkoff walk before 27,367 at Comiskey Park in what turned out to be Yogi Berra’s final game as New York manager. After the game, Berra was replaced by Billy Martin as Yankee manager.
*1990, LOCAL BOY MAKES GOOD: Waukegan native Jerry Kutzler went five innings to notch his first Major League victory in his debut in the White Sox 5-4 win over Toronto before 15,395 at Comiskey Park. Kutzler gave up three runs on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts before leaving after facing one batter in the sixth.
*1994, ALVAREZ MAKES IT 12 IN A ROW: Robin Ventura drove in four runs and Wilson Alvarez extended his winning streak to 12 in the White Sox 5-3 win at Cleveland for their first win ever at Jacobs Field. Alvarez improved to 5-0 in 1994 after finishing 1993 with seven straight wins.
*1999, FRANK TIES LUKE: Frank Thomas used a homer to tie Luke Appling for the White Sox all-time lead with 587 extra-base hits in a 10-7 win over Tampa Bay in Game 1 of a doubleheader sweep before 10,300 at Comiskey Park. Magglio Ordonez notched his first multi-homer game as the Sox finished off the sweep with a 9-1 win in the nightcap.
*2000, VALENTIN STAYS HOT: A day after hitting for the cycle, Jose Valentin launched a two-run home run in the Sox 3-2 win in the franchise’s inaugural game at Detroit’s Comerica Park. Valentin’s blast came in a three-run third. The victory improved the first-place Sox to 16-7.
*2004, SOX SCORE FIVE IN THE NINTH TO WIN IT: Sandy Alomar Jr.’s sac fly scored Joe Crede with the game-winner as the White Sox scored five in the ninth to pull out a 9-8 win over the Indians before 12,189 at US Cellular Field. The four-run ninth inning deficit was the largest overcome by the Sox since July 29, 1992 and their largest overcome at home since June 4, 1988.
*2009, CLUTCH PAULIE, TOUGH BART: Paul Konerko’s two-run double in the fourth was all Bartolo Colon needed in the White Sox 2-1 victory over Seattle in Game 1 one of a doubleheader split with Seattle before 25,042 at US Cellular Field. Colon did not give up an earned run in seven innings to get the win in the 1 hour and 52 minute affair.
*2018, PALKA POWER! Daniel Palka socked his first big league homer as part of a four-hit effort in the White Sox 8-0 win over the Royals in the first game of a doubleheader in Kansas City. Palka’s three-run homer in the seventh helped starter Carlos Fulmer, who fired seven innings, get the win.
*2019, LOPEZ GOES NUTS: Starter and winner Reynaldo Lopez recorded 14 of the White Sox MLB record-tying 20 strikeouts in a 4-1 win over Detroit. Lopez, whose total was tied for eighth-most in Sox history, joined Milwaukee’s Mike Fiers (Aug. 14, 2014) and Detroit’s Max Scherzer (May 30, 2010) as the only pitchers since at least 1908 to throw six innings or less with no earned runs and 14-plus strikeouts.
*2024, BENNY BLAST WINS IT: Andrew Benintendi’s two-run homer in the 10th walked the Sox off to an 8-7 win over Tampa at Guaranteed Rate Field. The blast enabled the Sox to sweep a three-game set from the Rays.
