Daulton Varsho’s impact on offense is getting more real by the day, as he’s hit six home runs across 11 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays this season. In addition, he has a .924 OPS. Varsho currently leads the team in home runs illustrating how he’s returning to his dominant form in 2022. His return to the Blue Jays lineup has been significant and it’s the boost that they have needed.

If he continues to hit this way, he could be on pace to hit 30 home runs this season. Aside from his offense, we know what he can do with his glove in the outfield. The 2024 Gold Glove winner has already made stellar plays in center field. His presence was missed at the start of the season, as he was on the injured list recovering from shoulder surgery. Varsho’s impact is undeniable and there’s no surprise considering how he smashed four home runs in camp.
Varsho also contributed to the Blue Jays win against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. He hit a ninth-inning double and came around to score on Ernie Clement’s walk-off single, as Toronto got the 2-1 victory.

Fans have loved the defensive efforts that Varsho has already displayed for the Blue Jays this season. Most recently, he nearly took away a home run from Tigers Riley Greene by scaling the high left-center field wall to try and glove the ball. But Blue Jays fans know how skilled Varsho is defensively. It’s his offense that hasn’t had some sold. But with how he’s been swinging the bat lately, he’s proving the critics wrong. His 6.1 % walk rate this season has demonstrated his solid plate discipline along with his 143 wRC+. A wRC+ of 140 is above league average and illustrates a player’s offensive production through hits and runs.
Hardware Within Reach?
The Varsho we have seen so far this year was absent last season. While his defense was top-notch, he did not have the offensive spark he now has to start 2025. His recovered shoulder has inevitably recharged his power, and Varsho has also made adjustments to his stance at the plate. Doing this can transform a player’s game and help them stand out. If Varsho remains on track with his offense he could even earn himself a Silver Slugger award. While it is still early in the season and it’s not guaranteed, the possibility is enticing.
Varsho has demonstrated a solid barrel rate and exit velocity indicating his powerful swing so far. His bat speed at the plate and his hustle maximize his offensive potential. A Silver Slugger is given to a player at each position who exemplifies high-caliber offense. Varsho’s teammate, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a two-time Silver Slugger and Varsho could join Vladdy this season and earn his first, which would be a huge award to add to his Gold Glove accolade from 2024.
