St. Charles Episcopal Church will hold its Car Boot and Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the church, 994 N. Fifth Ave. in St. Charles.
The church parking lot will be filled with open car trunks containing housewares, clothing, antiques, books, toys and more for sale, according to a press release about the event. A selection of baked goods will also be for sale.
One-man-band Paul Jazz will perform during the event, and between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Grand Slam Enterprises BBQ will offer food.

Kane Forest District to hold bird-watching hikes
The Kane County Forest Preserve District will hold a series of bird-watching walks beginning this month.
District naturalists will cover basic bird identification skills and share a few stories along the way, according to a press release about the upcoming programs.
Bird-watching walks will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at Hoscheit Woods Forest Preserve, 6N327 Route 25 in St. Charles; from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Elburn Forest Preserve, 45W061 Route 38 in Elburn; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Culver Forest Preserve, 6S496 Hankes Road in Sugar Grove.

Registration open for Geneva Citizens Police Academy
Geneva residents are being invited to register for the city’s 2025 Citizen Police Academy, city officials said in a press release.
The free program will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, Oct. 2 to Dec. 18, at the Geneva Police Department. The academy provides participants with an overview of the department and a behind-the-scenes look at police operations, according to the release.
During previous sessions, participants learned about the police hiring process, crime scene investigations, use of force, technology crime, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, drug education and active shooter response, officials said.
Applicants must be 21 years old or older and be a resident or business owner in the city of Geneva, the release said. Applications are available on the city’s website at https://www.geneva.il.us/ or at the Geneva Police Department.
Completed applications can be dropped off or mailed to the Geneva Police Department, 20 Police Plaza, Geneva, IL 60134. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 19.

Clea Shearer, cofounder of the home organization company The Home Edit, co-host of the Netflix series “Get Organized with The Home Edit” and co-host of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” will be promoting her book, “Cancer is Complicated and Other Unexpected Lessons I’ve Learned,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Community Christian Church, 1635 Emerson Lane, Naperville.
“Glee” actor Chris Colfer will be at the Downers Grove store at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, to talk about his new book, “Roswell Johnson Saves the Galaxy!”
Bobbi Brown, founder of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, will be discussing her memoir, “Still Bobbi,” at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville.
Drag queen Kim Chi, who participated in the eighth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and founded makeup brand KimChi Chic Beauty, will promote the release of “Kim Chi Eats the World: 75 Recipes Fit for a (Drag) Queen – A Cookbook,” on Saturday, Oct. 25, at Wentz Concert Hall.
