Everyone’s favorite “big fuzzy green dude” will receive his highest honor today.
White Sox mascot Southpaw is set to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame as part of this year’s induction class. Going in alongside him will be Globie, the official mascot of the Harlem Globetrotters.
Founded by David Raymond in 2005, the Mascot Hall of Fame is the hall of fame for all sports mascots in North America. It’s located in Whitting, Indiana, and already features notable fan favorites such as Benny the Bull, Mr. Met, and the Phillie Phanatic.
Southpaw, the Hall of Fame’s 25th inductee, originally made his South Side debut on June 13, 2004. Since then, he’s performed at over 6,100 community events, which is an average of 335 appearances per year coupled with 81 home White Sox games. In 2020, Southpaw was also named MLB Network Radio’s Best Mascot in Baseball via Twitter fan voting.
Today’s induction event is set to run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Whitting. If you are interested in attending, click here for full details.
