Southland crime: Robbery in New Lenox, carjacking in Harvey, and more

The following items were taken from police and court reports and news releases. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Bridgeview

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: A Burbank man accused of shooting at a car and slashing two of its tires in the 8900 block of Harlem Avenue before fleeing a responding officer for about 10 blocks with speeds reaching 75 mph on Aug. 18 turned himself in Sept. 10, police said. Fredrick P. Shinstine, 39, 6200 block of 84th Street, Burbank, is charged with reckless conduct, aggravated assault, aggravated fleeing and eluding, speeding more than 26 mph over the limit, disregarding a red light and damaging property, police said.

Burbank

AGGRAVATED BATTERY: Alexis Aguilar, 38, 3000 block of 24th Avenue, Broadview, was charged with aggravated battery to a police officer, aggravated assault and resisting arrest after kicking an officer and grabbing another officer’s groin during a Sept. 9 crash investigation at 79th Street and Nagel Avenue, police said. Aguilar was also accused of drunken driving, driving on the sidewalk, driving in the wrong lane and failing to provide proof of insurance, police said.

Chicago Ridge

UNLICENSED CRASH: Erika V. Mercado, 36, Chicago, was arrested Sept. 19 and accused of driving without a license and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision during a crash investigation in the 10300 block of Southwest Highway after officers determined she had never been issued a license, police said.

Harvey

CARJACKING ARREST: Fatima Angulo, 18, Harvey was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking in connection with a Sept. 7 reported carjacking near 157th Street and Willard Avenue, police said.

Homewood

RETAIL THEFT: Rudolph Bailey, 52, 15400 block of Vincennes Road, Phoenix, was arrested Aug. 6 and accused of felony retail theft and resisting arrest after taking merchandise selling for $1,159 at a department store in the 17600 block of Halsted Street and exiting through an emergency exit without paying, police said.

GUN POSSESSION: Thorn George, 37, Chicago, was arrested Aug. 13 and accused of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon after officers recovered a weapon and ammunition during a stop in the 18500 block of Dixie Highway, police said.

Lansing

GUN POSSESSION: John A. Beilak, 32, Hebron, Indiana, was arrested Aug. 22 and subsequently charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon after officers recovered a loaded 9 mm pistol during a stop at 173rd Street and Torrence Avenue, police said.

Lockport

THEFT ARREST: Arminas Lubianskas, 33, 15400 block of Willow Walk Drive, Lockport, was arrested Sept. 26 and charged with taking property worth up to $100,000 after officers and Homeland Security investigations recovered 27 appliances taken from a warehouse in the 14500 block of Gougar Road during a search of his home, police said.

Monee

DEALING ALLEGED: Mikal Holloway, 22, Park Forest, is scheduled to appear in Will County court Oct. 31, charged with manufacture/delivery 30 grams to 500 grams of cannabis, according to court records online. Holloway was arrested Sept. 3 after officers recovered 6.5 ounces of marijuana in resealable bags while helping a woman retrieve personal belongings from a vehicle in the 5800 block of Monee-Manhattan Road, police said.

New Lenox

FELONY THEFT: Jessie Givner, 54, Hammond, Indiana, was arrested Sept. 22 on a Will County warrant charging him with burglary and felony theft, according to court records online. Givner removed 20 cartons of cigarettes with a collective retail value of $1,900 from a gas station’s back storage area in the 400 block of East Lincoln Highway on April 4, police said.

ROBBERY ARREST: Matthew Moore, 31, Chicago, was arrested Sept. 26 and is charged with armed robbery with a firearm and forcible detention in connection with a Sept. 1 robbery of a cellphone store in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway by two men, according to police and Will County court records online. Virgil Holland, 27, Rockford, was arrested Sept. 4 and is charged with armed robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm by an individual convicted of a forcible felony, aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery, according to police and court records.

Oak Lawn

DUI CRASH: Angel Meneses-Sanchez, 35, Kilpatrick Avenue, Oak Lawn, was arrested Aug. 24 and charged with aggravated drunken driving without a license and failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, driving in the wrong lane, improper lane use and illegally transporting alcohol after he drove into two parked cars in the 4700 block of 95th Street, police said.

Orland Park

ID THEFT: Dyson L. Witcher, 22, 16100 block of Richmond Avenue, Markham, was arrested Sept. 4 and subsequently charged with credit card fraud, possessing a stolen credit card and retail theft at a building supply store in the 7300 block of 159th Street, police said. Officers determined Witcher had eight credit cards belonging to other people and had used one of the cards to make a purchase when he left the store with 11 rolls of insulation without paying the collective price of $418, police said.

VIOLENT OFFENDER: Isaha L. Williams, 30, 3000 block of Longfellow Avenue, Hazel Crest, was arrested during a Sept. 7 stop in the 15100 block of La Grange Road and subsequently charged with failing to register as a violent offender, police said. Isaha was convicted in Cook County court of aggravated battery to a child younger than 13 causing great bodily harm when he was 22 and the victim was 6, according to the state murderers and violent offenders against youth registry.
