Los Angeles Angels fans, rejoice. The most exciting player to ever put on a Halos jersey will return this weekend. The Angels are planning to activate Mike Trout on Friday, per Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register. The Angels haven’t officially announced their superstar’s return, but their transaction page shows they optioned Matthew Lugo to Triple-A on Thursday.

Report: Mike Trout to be Activated on Friday
Lugo wasn’t the Angels’ only roster move on Thursday. They also designated former Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson for assignment after he batted just .205 in 83 at-bats in an Angels uniform.
A bone bruise in his left knee has kept Trout sidelined since April 30. The Angels have continued to handle him with caution due to his recurrent injury history, having him take final tests by running the bases.
Manager Ron Washington said after Wednesday’s workout that Trout still had not run the bases at 100 percent, but it’s most likely that the Angels are completely OK with Trout’s progress.
The 33-year-old has had a slow start to his 15th major league season, so far batting just .179 with nine home runs and 18 RBI, playing in 29 games.
Over the last five seasons, Trout’s ability to stay on the field has been very concerning, playing in just 295 total games over that span. He missed the last two months of last season with a torn meniscus. The three-time MVP will sadly never return to his peak form, but baseball is always more exciting when Trout is back on the diamond.
The Angels could definitely benefit from the return of Mike Trout in their weekend series with the Cleveland Guardians, as they currently ride a five-game losing streak where they’ve scored just five total runs, including a three-game home sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees.
