The post Reds 3, White Sox 2: Colson Montgomery Goes Yard, Bats Stay Quiet appeared first on Sox On 35th.
After a scorching hot start to their Cactus League play, the White Sox offense cooled off a bit in today’s loss to the Cincinnati Reds (Colson Montgomery may beg to differ with his booming home run).
Not deterred by a few early longballs, the pitching staff held down the fort for the final six innings, only allowing three hits in that entire span.
Sam Antonacci’s aggressive baserunning and Dustin Harris’s clutch double got a rally going in the ninth inning, bringing the game within one run, but the team wasn’t able to close it out.
Scoring Summary
Bottom 4th: Colson Montgomery homers to right-center field. White Sox trail 3-1.
Bottom 9th: Dustin Harris doubles to center field, Sam Antonacci scores. White Sox trail 3-2.

Key Performers
Colson Montgomery (SS): 1-for-2, HR, R, RBI
In his third game of Spring Training, Montgomery saw a high heater and crushed it, depositing Lyon Richardson’s fastball 421 feet into right-center field.
Jonathan Cannon (P): 3.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, K
Cannon had a much better outing in his second appearance of Spring Training. It’s encouraging to see him limit walks and have an efficient outing, as he only threw 35 pitches in his three innings of work.
One other point of note: Cannon threw his sweeper harder than usual in today’s outing, which saw a velocity boost of more than three miles-per-hour compared to last year.

Luisangel Acuna (CF): 2-for-2, SB
Acuna had another productive game at the plate, mashing two singles in his two plate appearances – the latter of which registered a 107.0 MPH exit velocity.
He would ultimately exit the game after stealing second base in the fourth inning, after seemingly scratching his face while sliding.
Next Game
The White Sox take on the Dodgers on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 CST, available to watch on MLB TV. Sean Newcomb is projected to get the start against Tyler Glasnow.
